avatar's cinematic re-release

anyone looking forward 2 this?

putting all money issues aside, do u think the original film can be enhanced so much that the experience is greater? apparently james cameron has re-edited lots of the film and added 8 minutes of unseen footage

the most unoriginal part of the original film 4 me was the sound and there is no mention of the sound being changed

i thought maybe giving the film a more unusual experimental hypnotic soundtrack would have been nice and suitable 4 the world of pandora

i’d rather shove several forks into my face than sit through a longer version of this piece of garbage

For me to go see it again would mean one of two things-

a) James Cameron radically changed the story from a Hollywood formula to something new and original
b) I’m taking a girl to see it.

Neither, unfortunately, will happen… (probably!)

Did he add some plot points that aren’t rehashes of Miyazaki animes?

I just hope he added a real sex scene

umm… i didn’t see the first edition. is he re-releasing it in theaters?

Stephen Prokow

Milking it for more money huh? Or Mr. Cameron gets off by millions of people in awe seeing his blue creations on screen, which I wouldn’t doubt.

Matt Parks

-is he re-releasing it in theaters?-

Yeah. Later this month.

Well, I am kinda curious to see the new footage…

…although I’m still mighty P.O.’d at the Academy for giving this Cinematography over The White Ribbon/Inglourious Basterds.

why does it have to be re-released in theaters? he could just put the extra scenes on some version of dvd-box sets like other’s do, too. I don’t need to watch (and pay for it) it again just for the extra 8 minutes…

Nohea

I’m with Juno.

I didn’t much care for Avatar and don’t know why he would bother rehashing it for 8 mins of unseen footage or new editing. He’s already moved on to Australia and is building a new kind of submarine that will submerge to never before depths of 36,000 ft. It’s odd to me that he would own a number of these deep dive subs that he keeps moored in Siberia. I suppose it makes sense if you consider many of his films are ocean related and he’s a huge supporter of Oceana. They’re also working on a new upgraded 3-D underwater camera to film an underwater feature…alas the floaty jellyfish of Pandora will reunite with its natural habitat… this is one I’d like to see and compare my own underwater video to and lend a few suggestions cough The punchline: he says he may make the underwater film before taking on an Avatar sequel.

To be fair to James Cameron, he is one of the world’s well known celebrity philanthrocapitalist’s – doing good for others while doing good for himself. When all is said and done..that’s a good thing…even when oftentimes nothing said…is done.

How many swimming pools does Cameron need?

Nohea

Well, from the outside, he seems to be a good steward of the millions his films produce … he’s tied in with dozens of developmental and environmental improvements around the world…and though I rolled my eyes when I heard he was enlisted to work on the oil leak, (they apparently could not get his fleet of submarines to the gulf in a timely manner) he also assisted with the planting of 500,000 trees in Haiti, was there when an organization wanted him to help the Dongria Kondh tribe in India who were also at risk like the Pandora, battling against a company determined to mine their sacred mountains rich aluminum ore. They sent a funny letter to him saying: ’We’ve watched your movie – now watch ours.’ Also, an indigenous group in Brazil sought him out to bring attention to how they would be affected by the Belo Monte dam project. If you followed the tribulations of the Iroquois lacrosse team last month, one element of the story may have seemed slightly surprising: James Cameron’s $50,000 donation to assuage the debt from their travel troubles. I’d like the ability to help on that scale. I just wish he made better films :)

Yeah ok! It was pointed out to me in a PM that many in the media do not think as kindly of his philanthropic pursuits (I tried to avoid going there) He’s been called a "Senn Penn-styled milk face ‘hero’ and ‘what we have here is guilt-projection at its best: a spoiled rich Hollywood baron showing how ’eco-minded’ he is by putting his orangey-painted game face on and hitting the bushes.’ Yup, well, no doubt some of his efforts are slim and in name only.. others are followed with hands on aid and currency to back it up. If ever my little village is wiped out by a lava flow or tsunami (a reality that exists) ..I doubt I’d discriminate against the Penn’s, Cameron’s, Pitt’s and any other spoiled, rich filmmaking baron of the world willing to throw any amount of philanthropy this way.

p.s. sorry Like2sleep…I detrailed it didn’t I?

sorry this topic is really about the film’s chances of being enhanced

aliens 4 example i thought the special edition with all the colonised workers background didn’t enhance the film and i liked the original version where newt was found and her deceased family was left 2 the imagination

I too am surprised to read about the extent of his philanthropy…just the fact alone that he’s donated to a variety of efforts, to multiple efforts instead of, say, a single poster-effort surprises me.

But, can’t one of those efforts be to NOT re-release AVATAR in the theaters? This screams cash-ola! And is the very nadir of the director’s cut trend.

The Stunner

isn’t it ironic? the message of the movie is about fighting ruthless capitalism and “that sort” of technology. cameron is a well of contradictions.

-isn’t it ironic? the message of the movie is about fighting ruthless capitalism and “that sort” of technology. cameron is a well of contradictions.-

. . . and it’s ironic perhaps, too, that his depiction of “natural” people had to rely so extensively on technology, while the depraved technologists were portrayed by real actors without the techno-candy shell around their chocolate . It’s, as some one once wrote of another film, “rage against the machine by the machine.”

I’d like to know who is actually going to go and sit through this a second time in the theaters. People can be stupid, but marketing ploys like this usually fail.

…all the more reason not to see it. Eight extra minutes is just all the more torture.

Well for me seeing this in theatres was breathtaking, and I’d much rather spend the eight bucks again to see it on the big screen then buy the DVD, where the majority of what made this film good is lessened. It’s the visuals that make the film, and without a giant screen and quality 3D the movie just isn’t that great.

Berjuan

I would also like to see this again in theaters instead of renting the DVD. I want to try the 2-D version. Will it be released in 2-D also?

Don’t hold me to this, but if I remember correctly, it was Owen Gleiberman about V for Vendetta.

Joseph Bridges

As much as my sensibilities told me not to like this movie, I really enjoyed the 3D. Everything else sucked a big one, but I did enjoy the visuals. As far as seeing it again, not needed
