I’m going to presume the link doesn’t report that I’m going to get to watch this re-released in IMAX.

Oh well: “his realistic Gotham City”? Uh oh.

Here’s hoping Bane and a variation of Knightfall.

The three titles form a weird pattern, it doesn’t really seem like the title of a final trilogy. I’m glad he’s keeping the mystery about the villain though.

Looking forward to this. Curious though of who will be the antagonist. Nolan stated that the Penguin would be a tricky role and rumours were floating about saying The Riddler would be in it and played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt (from Nolans’s last film, Inception). Apparently that’s not happening either. Hmm, so what other villains are we left with? Hmm. Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Mr Freeze, Bane, Killer Croc are among an interesting selection. If one of more of these were picked for the future flick, who would they played by? This may never happen in the slightest, but just for kicks, which actors/actresses would you pick:

Harley Quinn – Kristen Bell or Scarlett Johansson
Poison Ivy – Ellen Page, Carrie-Anne Moss, Rachel Weisz
Killer Croc – Mickey Rourke!

I can’t even conjure up a guess on who would play Mr Freeze or Bane, sorry haha.

that’s the problem with Batman movies, after you’re stuck with wacky, uninteresting villains after 1-2 pictures.

I think two films are enough, second part can be hardly topped.

Here’s what you do with the next Batman film given the way Nolan left the last one—Batman is the ostensible villain, tell it from some other POV .

Rich Uncle Skeleton

haha, I didn’t really care for either of them.

How can movies about a guy putting on an animal costume and fighting crime take themselves so seriously? not even wink that the whole premise is funny? c,mon…

they were just dark and unpleasant.

Nolan always planned for a trilogy and no more, Micky.

I said it before and I’ll say it again, Harlequin AND Catwoman need to be in the next flick. Harlequin will be Joker’s disciple and ambiguity surrounding Catwoman as Batman’s disciple will increase the themes presented in The Dark Knight, as well as push Batman further on the brink as he starts attacking Catwoman despite Gotham citizens’ lack of understanding as to what her motivations are. Harlequin also is ambiguous because she tends to switch alliances between following and attacking The Joker, which means for most of the movie the drama can revolve around the characters (Batman, Gordon, et al) trying to figure out what the fuck these new characters mean.

I’d like to see The Riddler personaly. Riddler or Catwoman, or both.

True, about The Dark Knight not getting topped by a sequel. I don’t think there has ever been a film within a trilogy that has topped the first two within them. Maybe LOTR: Return of the King. So yeah, Nolan has to make Dark Knight Rises to that standard. And yes, I forgot to put Catwoman on the list. Her and Harley Quinn would definitely be the best choices on what you have just said. This won’t be out until 2012 at least and so it’s best giving Nolan time, I’m sure it’s going to be epic nonetheless.

I doubt there’ll be any major villain action in the next one. Who could follow Heath Ledger’s Joker? Who would even want to try? And does Christian Bale really want to have his own franchise hijacked out from under him again? Fat chance.

I think they’ll go back to the BATMAN BEGINS kind of thing — minor league villain and some kind of assassin squad thing, like those stupid League Of Shadows guys.

I think it’d be a lot more fun if the film showed Michael Caine’s Alfred and Morgan Freeman’s Lucius Fox having Bruce Wayne committed to Arkham Asylum for his Batman shenanigans, thus consolidating their hold on the Wayne fortune and Wayne Industries. It makes a lot more sense — they’ve got to be up to something, what with having been enabling poor psychotic Bruce Wayne for so long with their access to High Technology and endless speeches about What Batman Needs. Any sensible adult with Wayne’s best interests at heart would have vigorously advocated therapy and lots of it, to say nothing of massive doses of anti-depressants, for everybody’s favorite Bummed Out Billionaire.

I’m not into comic books, it’s a world I am so very not interested. however the Dark Knight is rare blockbuster that left me engaged and thoughtful instead of bored and bummed out.

if he has to do a third I hope he’ll stop there.

^That is precisely why Harley Quinn is necessary.

Since nothing can live up to The Joker, The Joker has to live on as a meme. Harley Quinn is that meme. Catwoman is the Batman meme. Both are perversions/twists on the original that really place both of their “powers” into question. It just fits too well, in my opinion.

I’m quite pleased The Riddler isn’t happening. He’s only a good character in plots like Hush, otherwise they’d have to re-write him and he’d be nothing more than a washed up Joker.

Bane. Bane is the twisted form of Batman. They are one in the same. Get Tom Hardy to pack on the pounds like he did for Bronson and get it going.

the Riddler, oh my God. I just remembered Jim Carrey in that role and fact that Johnny Depp was attached briefly to it. I shuddered at the mere thought.

Gazanator101

I imagined if Johnny Depp would ever play the Riddler, he would be god-damn terrible, like when he played Willy Wonka in the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory remake. And he is one of my favourite actors as well!

micky ward

I hate Depp, he is weird and batman solving his riddles, it would be pretty disastrous. it’s not even
concept for Adam West show.

@Bon Jovi Friday, there was an interesting take on the Riddler done several years ago in a book called The Question. He was a bitter, slightly pathetic figure, jealous of the notorious Joker. I cannot for the life of me remember who wrote it, but Dennis Cowyn (sp?) or Max Allan Collins are possible.

PolarisDiB

I too have to sincerely agree that as much as I like Depp, The Riddler was not the way to go for him.

However, I think Nolan understand that. He has an eye towards creating a gritty realism Batman (no, I do not mean that everything he does is realistic!) that really does not allow flamboyancy as much as intensity. Depp can do intense ( Donnie Brasco ), but he’s most commonly associated with flamboyant and I don’t think he’s going to work too hard to break out of that mold anymore.

I thought Donnie Brasco was lame, the best scene was the end when Pacino takes off his ring, cause he knows its the end… It had some great actors like James Russo and Michael Madsen and Bruno Kirby, but the movie was dull. I do dig the Patrick Doyle soundtrack. That said for Batman 3 I am happy Tom Hardy is in it because I enjoyed him the most in Inception. I would like to see Scarecrow again in the 3rd one just for the fuck out of it. I dig what Nolan did with him. Believe it or not you could have the Joker in the movie again just hire this actor Charlie Hunnam he could play the joker brilliantly and his is from the U.K. he is currently on Sons of Anarchy but I dont watch the show but I saw him on Undeclared and he was great in that, IFC is gonna start re airing the show. Let it be said here 1st CHARLIE HUNNAM for Joker.Yes, Ledger was great, but unfortunately his has passed on and the role is vital in Batman.
I am baffled and mad that Nolan choose to kill Two Face in the end of Dark Knight I guess he wanted to make him THE tragic figure but it sucks cause I would of loved to see Two Face rob a bank or something and be bad with a crew of goons, himself…
He could honestly do Mr.Freeze and the Penguin, and for that matter the Riddler. I have read so many Batman comics and within the spectrum that has been written I have seen a dozens of great plots to the villains..That give them all back story and substance.

Bring back Michael Keaton as the ‘aging Batman’ who has descended into a level of narcissistic madness! There’s your third and final film for ya. Why are all these comic book films so focused on the villains? It’s called Batman, not The Villains of Batman … oh, and Batman too. Character development not character masturbation!

Roscoe

Character development? From Christopher Nolan? Dream on.
