Berger's Cinematographers Award

Sorry if this was posted already, but if it was I guess let this die. I was too lazy to check. Also, I really don’t know if anyone cares or not about this, but I thought it was kind of important that The White Ribbon won a film in the US other than Best Foreign Film.

I think its idiotic in the first place that there’s a separate “foreign film category” to begin with. That alone should discredit said award at least on some level.

I agree, and I think foreign films should be able to compete on the same level with the Hollywood films. We all know that they’re on an extremely higher level anyway.

the Academy Awards are for American films…its that simple. I dont even know why they even give out foreign film awards. It doesnt make sense, if they award best foreign film why not award best foreign actor/writer/editing etc. ?

Even the “foreign” award shows like the Cesars have a category for foreign films and tend to nominate their own country’s films in the other categories so the double standard people hold is quite interesting.

Having just seen the film I’m ecstatic for Berger and the further recognition it brings to this outstanding film. His cinematography is gorgeous.

Thanks Josh, for not turning this into another awards debate.

Yes, i could care less about awards in general unless they help bring light to excellent films, which is why I’m rooting for The Cove to win for documentary.

Certainly a deserved win. A unique looking film. I read an interview with Berger where he said in preparation they looked at Bergman and Eastwood’s Unforgiven.
