Hi recenlty I have had the chance to watch a few Bergman’s I did not know such as ; Summer Interlude (1951) Waiting Women (1952) Dreams (19550 and Brink of Life (1959) – I was struck by how inventive Bergman was in these movies without the heavy symbolism of Seventh Seal and Wild Strawberrys – in some way’s each of these films is not a master work but a adventure in film – each also is what would have been called a ’women’s picture’ or melodrama’s – any views on these films most welocme

Bergman and the women. Like Kieslowski once noted, no director in the history of cinema has said so much about human nature as Bergman.

And Bergman’s favorite subject were the womenfolk. I had the opportunity of watching Dreams, and other similar Bergman films like Autumn Sonata, Cries and Whispers, Summer with Monika, To Say Nothing About These Women where he explores the fairer sex. I absolutely loved them. Dreams especially — Harriet Anderson was adorable.

I will be watching Brink of Life this Sunday.
