Well, actually i’m a contemporary musical nincompoop, i’m looking for something to grasp here. Radiohead, Joanna Newsom and Arcade Fire have had quite a few mentions but i’m relatively familiar with them, have even heard or got some of their albums. I may get Rodrigo y Gabriela, but from my taste i wonder if anyone can put me onto something suitable.

I like Amalia Rodrigues (Fado), 1970s Elton John and Bruce Springsteen, quite a lot of opera and classical, Frank Sinatra, Anouar Brahem from Tunisia, Tinariwen from Mali, Elis and Tom from Brazil, Raushan Orazbaeva’s Akku (Kyl Kobyz music from Kazakhstan) Fleet Foxes, Manic Street Preachers, White Stripes’ Elephant, Guillemots’ Through the Windowpane, Radiohead’s OK Computer, Arcade Fire, Gorki’s Zygotic Mynci, Leonard Cohen, Patti Smith .. All of his early albums from the Creation label are available for free, with his permission of course. I have to say Wind’s Poem by Mount Eerie is possibly better than anything mentioned so far. Well, deeper in the least. Deeper in a good way. For Lynch fans, he samples a Twin Peaks motif and it has strange references to Twin Peaks weirdness.
