One that I think is very straightforward but also insightful about filmmaking is Sidney Lumet’s Making Movies.
Goosebumps by R.L. Stine
David Thompson’s book on Orson Welles is one of the best books I have read.
“Leni: The Life and Work of Leni Riefenstahl” by the late Steven Bach is a wonderful read that seemingly places Mz. R in the correct light regarding her choices and knowledge during the War years. An excellent biography of her.
One I haven’t started on yet is a doorstop (743 pages before the footnotes): “David Lean: A Biography” by Kevin Brownlow.
I don’t generally recommend things unread, but Brownlow is one of the best we have, both as a historian and as a film writer, and I have been impressed by his other works for decades. The reviews suggest this is the final word on Lean.

I’m looking for a good read on a filmmaker, preferably autobiographical but not limited to. I do enjoy reading but my patience for books isn’t as good as I’d like it to be so I’m really looking for one that will hook me and draw me in. So if we could just compile a list of good filmmaker biographical books in this topic I’d be very amused.
Thanks in advance for the help.
