Dark Days is the only one I can think of.
Underground Children (Edet Belzberg)
Streetwise (Martin Bell)
Andarilho (Cao Guimarães)
I remember seeing a documentary about trainhoppers, but I can’t recall the title. It may have been Catching Out.
Yes, it’s many years since i saw it, but i would second Streetwise. Ken Loach’s mid-sixties TV drama Cathy Come Home made a huge impact in the UK. I must get round to seeing Andarilho.
Bus 174 (2003) dir. Jose Padilha, Felipe LaCerda
This tragic documentary is about a young man who hijacks a bus in broad daylight and terrorizes the passengers while Brazilian television cameras roll live. A good part of the film focuses on the young man’s childhood and the street kids of Brazil.
Yes, double post what the last poster said.
Jupiter’s Wife (IMDB), by Michel Negroponte, from 1994.
On The Bowery (1956) Dir. Lionel Rogosin
Underground Children is a devestating piece of cinema.
Andarilho. No question. Grey Daisies is absolutely right.
He always beats me to the punch.
Cathy Come Home and The Wet House (comes as a DVD extra on Penny Woolcock’s film The Principles of Lust)
Riding the Rails (1997) d. Lexy Lovell, Michael Uys
I second Rumplesink on DARK DAYS and wish to add that the soundtrack of DJ Shadow makes a beautiful complement to the amazing visuals of this movie.
Anyone know where I can watch ‘On the Bowery’ on the Internet? Thanks.
“Brother’s Keeper”
These brothers aren’t homeless and they’re not literally hobos, but I think it might hit the spot.
I second with Dark Days. a pretty fascinating look at the homeless community living underground in subway tunnels.
i don’t know, but it’s probably this:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0431126/
Underground Children is a devastating picture.
dope fiend willy
What are the best documentaries out there on homeless people and hobos?
