@Edwin: I’ve noticed (even moreso lately) that there seems to be no in-between with some people on Altman. I, for one, don’t mind this so much. If some people just don’t get it, oh well. But, when a film or filmmaker seems universally praised (with no real dissent), I find them antiseptic, alright at best. There’s always so much going on in Altman’s films, a lot of the time it’s extremely non-linear, and not everybody is either going to catch it or appreciate it. A great stylist who doesn’t make the style his focus.
I’m right there with you everytime I see someone say Altman is “overrated” or, in this instance, “sucks”, but I have found that this is not going to end anytime soon.
