All good suggestions! Anymore? Seen most of the suggested, but some are still definitely tempting. I automatically thought Fargo too. Have seen Let The Right One In, twice quite recently.. Thanks for the quick replies.

The Ice Storm. Ang Lee and actors who were still young in the 90’s.

Dr. Zhivago would most definitely be my choice as well. I felt cold just watching it.

Thing & Shining seconded. i tend to think of _Thing’s music during deep snow. I suggest Altman’s Quintet. One of the coldest looking movies I’ve ever seen.

That snow is on it’s way to me in NJ now. I’m not looking forward to it.

Sci Fiction or Fantasy sagas like Alien or The lord of the rings. You are going to be busy!

Herzog’s Encounters at the End of the World would be a perfect choice too.

Kurosawa’s Dersu Uzala

Winter Light, Stranger Than Paradise, Fanny & Alexander (great for Christmas and tons of snow) Road to Perdition, Careful.

I’s a Wonderful Life of course.

Jeremiah Johnson with Robert Redford.

When stranded in a snow storm it’s always a good idea to eat other human beings.

Andrei Rublev. Set in snowy Russia, it should make for a good 3.5 hours.

May I also suggest putting on the song Listen the Snow is Falling by Galaxie 500 (cover of the equally good Yoko Ono song).

John Huston’ The Dead. Actually, reading the short story would be better.
