Yroc: Of course a film can be at once a documentary and an experimental film. “Symbiopsychtaxiplasm,” for one.

@ZBART I’ve never heard of that one. I’ll definitely have to check it out. I agree wholeheartedly about a film be a doc and a work of experimental cinema at the same time, and I suppose that is what Sympathy For The Devil is.

I guess, in a sense, the cinema verite style is a sort of documentary style of film but not in the same way as Sympathy…

the Beatles in A Hard Day’s Night and Help!
and I thought Meatloaf was the only good part in Fight Club
Tom Waits was great in Short Cuts
Levon Helm, of The Band, in A Coal Miner’s Daughter
oh, just remembered Ringo Starr and David Essex in That’ll Be The Day

@RACHELLEIGH I really do like Meatloaf’s performance in Fight Club but I wouldn’t say it’s the only good part. The stylish directions and soundtrack are two of the best parts of the film. Let’s also not forget Jared Leto’s Angel Face character getting his shit beat in.

I guess this doesn’t necessarily count cause it’s a tv show but Loudon Wainwright III on Undeclared. Probably the best part of that show along with Jason Segal.

@RUBY STEVENS As far as I’m concerned, we shouldn’t have to even mention the Fridays—their greatness is common knowledge.

Best films is the key word state property 1 and 2 do not qualify nor does RZA in American Gangster nor does Tyrease in any Transformers movie, Andree 3000 was better in Four Brothers but I still did not like the movie overall..

yroc

@RUDY That’s true, so we can dismiss the state property films (although jay-z was actually pretty funny in the first one) and RZA in Amercan Gangster. I don’t think either Tyrese or Andre 3000 were particularly good in that film. Actually, no one was really that good in that film. As a matter of fact, John Singleton has been a disappointment for a few years now, hasn’t he?

Art Garfunkel in Bad Timing and Catch-22. He was surprisingly great.

Christopher Jason Bell

Ah I dunno. Art was kinda bad in Catch-22, methinks. Total dry line readings.

But two fantastic movies that weren’t mentioned, Oshima’s “Three Resurrected Drunkards” and “Sing a Song of Sex”
