I’d personally hand it to Dillinger is Dead (1969), and following that I’d have either Salo or a film from Antonioni’s trilogy of Alienation.
Rome, Open City and Il Gattopardo.

Well, there’s “L’Avventura” and then there’s everything else.
I would like to mention one film that is always forgotten…Vittorio DeSica’s “Miracle In Milan.”
That one is definitely worth a look.
