Denis Lenoir ( Monsieur Hire, Demonlover)

Darius Khondji (se7en, City of Lost Children) Just realized I haven’t seen more recent stuff from him…

What, no mention for Sacha Vierny!?!?!?

Berjuan

Prieto, Luzbeki, Doyle and Sven Nykvist who died last year but he deserves a mention… that dude worked with Bergman AND Tarkovsky.

How about Nestor Almendros—for Days of Heaven? I enjoyed his work in it.

Zachary Phillip Brailsford

Nestor Almendros passed away a few years back; trust me, he and Nykvist would have been on my list.

Adriano Goldman – Sin Nombre – absolutely beautiful work. Of course, the mountains and jungles of Central America lend themselves well to photography, but still, very impressive.

Robert Richardson (JFK, Aviator, Kill Bill) This is a frikkin’ genius.

Jordan H

Definitely Lance Acord. The guy has an incredible eye and very classic tastes when it comes to lighting.

Owen Sound

I’m rather enjoying Anthony Dod Mantle’s work

Deakins would get a nomination for Jesse James alone
Doyle for everything Wong Kar Wai has done

Gábor Medvigy for Satantango.

I’m trying to keep this ‘modern.’

Mikel Guillen

Gabor Medvigy and Benot debie

Chet Anit

Kaminski

Audrey A

Totally with Roger Deakins.
And Robert Elswit.
And Frederick Elmes.

Grant Rindner

Ellen Kuras (Eternal Sunshine).

Obviously Roger Deakins would be high up on that list.

Dante Spinotti, but mostly just for LA Confidential.

But really it’s gotta be Robert Richardson, the man is a genius. I mean, Kill Bill, Platoon, Inglourious Basterds, JFK, The Aviator, he’s incredible.

Mikel Guillen

Fred Kelemen for Bela tarr and Sacha Vierny for Greenaway…

User de Faux-Fuyants

He uses the alias Peter Andrews, but Steven Soderbergh is an amazing cinematographer. His work on Traffic, Che, Solaris, The Girlfriend Experience, and The Good German is outstanding.

Maybe not as ‘modern’ — but I love Robby Mueller. I believe he is still working. I love Wings of Desire, Dead Man, and Paris, Texas especially.
