Bart The Bear in The Edge… no contest.

“Ben … the two of us need look no more …”
haha
Aren’t we all forgetting a whole bunch of horses throughout the years, like Trigger and Silver, etc.? My fave would be Lee Marvin’s in Cat Ballou, who acted as drunk as Lee.
And what about Clint’s orangutang?
I am partial to the monkey in “Robinson Crusoe on Mars” because he has to carry half the movie. His paste eating scene still brings chills.

I’m just waiting for someone to go Grizzly Man.

The Raccon in Rascal.
John Wayne’s dog in Hondo
Clint’s dog in The Outlaw Josey Wales
And has anyone named Cujo?
The horses in Andrei Rublev, of course.
the baby alien worm thing from eraser head?
don’t forget the cow in andrei rublev
i’ll nominate the poor monkeys and mama pig in Even Dwarves Started Small
@ ANONYMOUSE:
Killer Rabbit in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Uh duh.
The donkey in Bressons “Au hasard Balthazar”.
CHAOS REIGNS.
Also slide.
PHA
Mad Max’s dog in “Mad Max 2”, both for the amazing double-take at the beginning of the film and for many other good scenes:

The lovable fellow was, as I recall, adopted by one of the stunt co-ordinators after the filming ended and lived out his doggie years in comfort. Well deserved.
imho, good animal actors are about as rare as good child actors.
…that’s right, I just compared children to animals.
Benji and the chimp from Project X are my two favorites.
the monkeys at the end of AGUIRRE, WRATH OF GOD
also i second MILO AND OTIS, which is still not on this website. it took them FOUR YEARS to shoot that movie!
this goddamn feline

and the dogs in Baxter and Umberto D.
The cat in Cat’s Eye.
The horse in the Black Stallion
The (border collie) dog in Down & Out in Beverly Hills
The camel in the Story of the Weeping Camel
@Cani best cat ever
nothing beats the deer and the mountain lion in Chester Franklin’s Sequoia, anyone who loves Bambi should watch it.

Lucy in Wendy and Lucy
The pitbulls in No Country For Old Men
Little dog in There’s Something About Mary
Baxter in Anchorman
all the animals in Homeward Bound
Cows in the field at the start of Heart Of Glass and Satantango.
Asta in The Thin Man, also the dog from Bringing Up Baby
Elsa the lioness from Born Free. as well as the other lions, who were trained equally well
Karenin the dog from The Unbearable Lightness Of Being
the poor chicken in Withnail And I
the stampede (of sheep I think) at the end of The Field
Mehdi Jahan
Vinnie’s Dog in Snatch…..the real Playaaaa…;)
