THE PHANTOM MENACE
“Winter Light”; I’m sure there are more, but this one stands out right now. It very much suits the bleak film to which it is attached.
Symbiopsychotaxiplasm: Take One
The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds
Mitchell 109 I was coming to this thread to write “Touchez as au grisbi”, but i will settle for “The Fearless Vampire Killers or: Pardon Me, But Your Teeth Are in My Neck”. It has to be my most beloved movie title to date.
Death Rides a Horse
“Death Rides a Horse” great title mediocre movie.
“Teen Wolf Too” I always found it clever and funny in a cheesy way.
There Will Be Blood
The Cars that Ate Paris, Resevoir Dogs, Duck You Sucker, and Lady in a Cage
Saw.
What? I’m serious. What other one-word title could be more loaded?
Best almost-a-title ever – the original working title for Mario Van Peebles’ “Baadasssss!”:
HOW TO GET THE MAN’S FOOT OUTTA YOUR ASS
‘ALIEN’
The title alone is scary and perfectly invokes the terror and suspense the film captures. Simple and foreboding. It reaches out to touch a basic and common fear. The fear of the unknown. It seamlessly functions with maximum effect in the way a good title should by acting as the final piece in making the thing coalesce. The film totally lives up to the strength of its title, while the title itself lends the film credibility. Imagine if the film was called ‘Space Beast’ (working title). Ouch.
BLADE RUNNER

Petey Wheatstraw, the Devil’s Son-in-Law
So many choices…
The Naked Kiss (it has nudity in the title and the possible question of what is behind it?)
Night of the Living Dead (timeframe and plot…enough said and said so well people are still using offshoots of the phrase)
Batteries Not Included (dares to have a negative in the title and use a famous phrase)
Let the Right One In (wait…who/what are the wrong ones?)
Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (now that is a title with action in it plus it showed the growing mythology of the series)

Fassbinder always had great titles. Ali: Fear Eats the Soul, The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant , The Marriage of Maria Braun, In a Year with 13 Moons, Beware of a Holy Whore, Love Is Colder Than Death
Herzog’s title Everyman for Himself and God Against All is an amazing title.
For one word titles I think Brick is pretty good. As is Jaws. Ridicule and Affliction.
-Jesse James Meets Frankenstein’s Daughter
- The Last Days of Disco
- Heartworn Highways
- Searching For The Wrong-Eyed Jesus
- F For Fake
- Willie Dynamite
- I’m Not There
- Billy The Kid vs. Dracula
Early Argento titles are also really great: Four Flies on Grey Velvet and The Bird With The Crystal Plumage, most of the Italian giallo and horror titles are really great, actually. Fulci’s A Cat In the Brain, Murder-Rock: Dancing Death (aka Slashdance), Murder To the Tune of Seven Black Notes, and Don’t Torture a Duckling. I agree that Herzog always has some good ones too: The Strange Ecstasy of Woodcarver Steiner, Lessons of Darkness, and Little Dieter Needs to Fly.

Cannibal Holocaust and Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle. I mean, with those titles, you know exactly what you’re about to watch. Oh, and I almost forgot Snakes on a Plane.
@ Kifah – I think The Quantum of Solace is horrible—unless you mix it with one of the older, less pretentious titles and come up with::
QuantumPussy
Seriously, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind or Unfaithfully Yours
If you take how it relates to the movie into account, l’d say Finding Neverland, Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner, Mirrormask, And Now For Something Completely Different and Dancer In The Dark
Nobody’s mentioned this one yet?

Can Hieronymus Merkin Ever Forget Mercy Humppe and Find True Happiness?
I honestly don’t know how ANYONE could top that title. Now… anyone know where I can see it?

I love film noir titles, among which the Michael Shayne flick “Blue, White and Perfect” has my vote for favorite title (“Sleepers West” being the series’ close second).
