Boy, I don’t know what to think about this. The trailer was definitely underwhelming, and I fail to see the point as well, I thought Bier’s film was alright. I don’t know if I would consider myself a fan of Sheridan as much as I am just a loyal follower of Daniel Day-Lewis, but I guess I did sit through the 50 cent movie, so I’ll give this a shot when it hits DVD. Maguire looks like he might be good in it.
“I did sit through the 50 cent movie” Wow! Endurance you have master Jedi.
I know, I know. It was when I worked at Blockbuster and I got movies for free, and we got all the new ones a week early. It was a dark time in my life.
“It was a dark time in my life.” The darkside beckons us all- I saw Drowning Mona at a preview screening…
Didn’t finish the trailer because it looks like it’s one where it attempts to tell the entire movie in two-and-a-half minutes.
I’m not quite sure how I’m supposed to feel about Tobey Maguire playing intense. Remember when he punched George Clooney in “The Good German”? Remember “The Good German”? Well, the punch like disrupted several abstract fabrics and removed me from the movie and Cate Blanchett’s glorious accent.
What a horrific job they did cutting that trailer. It looks like a mess. And the climax of the thing, with the cuts to black screens… yeeesh. I don’t know the original film this is based on, but I’m a fan of Natalie Portman and Jake, so we’ll see what happens.
Bier is one of the great female talents of modern cinema,a Hollywood stupidity like Things we Lost in the Fire won’t erase her melodrama abilities in Open Hearts and the original Brothers…
so fuck remakes once and for all..fuck,fuck,fuck remakes, especially some upcoming ones am hearing they’ve started producing like I Walked with a Zombie or Let the Right One In…
i see no point of remaking another non-English language film, particularly with 3 plain good but not exceptionally made actors…
Thomsen can have them all for breakfast if he wants to with his acting skills..
and for pete’s sake..it’s another remake, what’s the big deal, seriously, even if you didn’t like the original…why more remakes????

i think it looks good, i just think they did a shitty job with the trailer. when you put gyllenhall, macquire and portman all together, you know its gonna be good, at least good enough to sit through the entire thing.

It looks like a shot-for-shot copy of the original, right down to costume and set-design. If so, what was the point? I thought Sheridan might take the story and do an alternative take on it… but watching the trailer I felt like I’d already seen the film.. Shame because I’m a fan of Sheridan’s In America, The Boxer, and In the Name of the Father.
