I put George W. Bush ahead of all of them, with Groucho a close second – then Harpo, Chaplin, Keaton (not Diane), Harold Lloyd, and Tati.
Chaplin
Keaton
Tati
Purely because I have only seen Playtime. I loved it but it is just one film compared to what I have seen from the other two, especially Chaplin (who I have seen all of his features).
i’d only count Bush if he knew how funny he was being…
i don’t watch enough of any of the three nominees. what kind of film-fan am i? an incomplete one…
name the films of extreme merit, i’ll watch them.
GO!!!
Keaton
Chaplin
Tati
I adore Buster <3
Keaton and Tati as filmmakers (with nods also to Blake Edwards and Preston Sturges)
Chaplin and Peter Sellers as performers (with nods to the Marx Bros., Peter Falk and Walter Matthau)
Harold Lloyd.
Chaplin’s to mawkish for me. Tati isn’t American enough for me (at least to rank, I still love his films), and Keaton follows in second place. He amazes me more often than he makes me laugh. Lloyd makes me laugh most consistently.
All things being equal, I’ll go with the guy in the glasses.
“You have a higher percentage of bald professionals than the average person.”
1 – Tati, for his subtle insight to humanity
2 – Keaton
3 – Chaplin
but why quibble, watch them all
Keaton is one of the most beautiful wonders of the cinema world. He had an eye for composition and his timing was exquisite, surpassed only by Fred Astaire. And such daring! Less subtle, Chaplin brought cinema to the people of the world, with a universal humour and pathos, he stood up for and was loved by the poor, and he had a political passion. Giants both, even if Chaplin’s sentimentality may sometimes be thought mawkish and unfashionable now.
1. Chaplin
2. Tati
3. Keaton
All three though are brilliant in my opinion.
Keaton is at the top for me, I just finished reading a book called “the Lost Art of Walking” where it described how hard keaton worked on perfecting his “funny” walk. Apparently he bought an old film reel of a felix the cat cartoon and would spend hours studying the way in which felix walked until he could perfect it himself.
1. Tati

Btw – if you’re a Tati fan – you might enjoy this website:
Kit
1) Jacques Tati
2) Buster Keaton
3) Charles Chaplin
Actually it’s quite difficult for me to choose which is my favorite. But I put Tati over the other because of the setting and how serious he made a movie. No doubt, all of them bring me lots of happiness.
