I haven’t listened to his records in years (since I switched from LP to CD), but I’m sure I’m going to miss him. I wasn’t aware of his illness, which I guess is the explanation for the end of his musical career. Hopefully, the painting gave him as much satisfaction as the music did.
Terrible artist both musically and as a painter.
I didn’t like his music the first time I heard it, but later after I got into Pere Ubu’s The Modern Dance I listened to Trout Mask again and really liked it, and realized how much of an original and an influence on other musicians he was.
One of the few people in this world that I would call a real hero. Having a family member with M.S. I know the debilitating pain it causes, and I’m Glad Mr. Van Vliet isn’t suffering anymore
