What the hell? This is getting released in theaters in two parts? That is bullshit.

after seeing the Trailer for this film I’m REALLY psyched!

“What the hell? This is getting released in theaters in two parts? That is bullshit.”

If you live in New York City (like me) or Los Angeles, you can see the entire 4.5 hours in one whack. It’s playing for 1 week and then it’ll be released by IFC (is that right?) in 2 parts.

I’m seeing it Saturday and I can’t wait.

Looks awesome. Perhaps a vindication of sorts…

Shotzi

I live in neither. I thought it was three and a half hours. I guess 4.5 is pretty unmarketable.

Finally, children across the nation will learn who that guy on their t-shirt is.

Benicio del Toro was actually physically born to play Ernesto Guevara, whether he likes it or not. He’s the spitting image of the man with no make-up required. It’s kind of unsettling, really, almost as if the zombie corpse of Che has risen to portray himself in this movie.

My only hope is that Soderbergh, like so many before him, didn’t fall in love with Guevara, blinding him to the fact that the man was responsible for absolute atrocities (largely carried out by the Castro Bros. yes… but atrocities still).

I’m excited that I can see it in its 4 and a half hour glory. and i will be doing so come sunday. i do wonder if it will just be a love letter but it seems like they’re getting to the root of why he did the things he did, even all the executions and slaughtering. I’m truly excited.

hmm…even before having seen the film I am just trying to imagine what it would be like had Terrence Malick decided to direct it.

Adam Greene

Argin: I feel the same what. What would Malick’s version of this story looked like? Would it have been 9 hours long? Would he have shot it on the RED? I find Malick fascinating and his films interesting at the very least. I’m looking forward to Soderbergh’s interpretation. I love when Soderbergh does ‘art film’.

But unlike the ‘Kill Bill’ or ‘Grindhouse’, Soderbergh conceived this as two complimentary films, not a studio decision to chop it up for running time issues. I guess we should be glad it isn’t the Weinsteins who are handling ‘Che’, even though IFC is distributed by the same company that does the Weinstein Company.

I’m glad I live in LA.

I wasn’t really thinking when I mentioned ‘Grindhouse,’ because, yes, they are two “complimentary” films. ‘Che’, both parts, only works – whether you like it or not – as a whole. IFC is only releasing both parts together in NY and LA, starting today I believe and only for a week. Then, they’re separating the two. I invited my parents to see it with me on Sunday at 1:30. The three of us are human rights activists currently focusing on North Korea, so it should be a great time.

I was under the impression it is playing in New York. Sure, though, he’s a handsome guy, I suppose.

If your a cinephile does that mean your a director, someone important or did you guys suck dick to the top?

Edit: What are the commands? I know * * means bold, but whats Italics, subscript, superscript, performatted text and change text color?

Shotzi

Oh, I suppose this question is directed at me. I didn’t realize I was a “cinephile”. I’m not a director and I’m not someone important, so I guess that narrows it down. Unfortunately, I haven’t the slightest idea who is in charge around here or at “the top” so I’ve had to suck dick pretty indiscriminately.

I’ll keep that in mind for when I need my dirty work done, Shotzi.

No way am I spending 4 1/2 hours on Che.

Reeks of indulgence, Soderbergh. I would be crying if I was an investor on the piece.

What unnerves me about the whole ordeal is that I simply don’t champion what Che stood for, and to me it’s just another biopic (albeit an unconventional one) made by a white man about a man whose ideals, contradictions, and infamy are lest misunderstood by those who think he’s a rebel of cool. Che was a murderer, and brought chaos to as many people as he claimed to help. Look up his history, translated by alternate literature not wikipedia.

Che the movie does look good, thought.
