Get a hair cut, buy a fake gun, be Travis Bickle! :)
I’m anxiously awaiting responses to this in case I have to go to a costume party. I could always be Chaplin and spend all night saying, No I’m not Hitler.
HA!
I was The Dude once about six years ago. The outfit was perfect, and I drank White Russians and abided all night long.
You could dress up as Vincent Vega, all you need is a cheap black suit and skinny tie.
Wheelchair+camera+Jimmy Stewart impression=Rear Window (Grace Kelly optional)
Drew: funny you should mention that… two years ago I had a mohawk (as a general hairdo,) and always wore a green army jacket, (mostly due to Linda Cardellini in Freaks & Geeks) and on Halloween, unintentionally completed the rest of the costume by dawning my normal outfit… when someone asked if I was Travis Bickle, I took the opportunity to not look a fool and said yes. The next day I shaved my mohawk.
This year we’re trying to get four of us together to go out as the cast of Seinfeld. If not, I’m gonna let my goatee grow out and be David Brent.
I’m drawing a blank. I just remember last year I went to a party at a club and there was about 300 ppl of which I counted thirty-seven Sweeney Todds. So lame.
i’ve done raul duke, sid vicious, travis bickle (last scene travis bickle), this year i’m going as a member of baseball fury from the warriors.
Landen: funny you should mention that… when i went as travis bickle, i had about 10 people ask me if i was chuck lidell. i would say “no, i’m travis bickle” and they would look at me like dog watching television. my generation sucks.
kudos to the baseball furies. i went as cochise using an afro, tribal earing/wristband, and of course, the warriors vest.
I wanted to do Max renn from Videodrome this year but just didn’t find the time…luckily though the film will be playing at a " films of Toronto" screening around Halloween!
still though…had the styrofoam ready to craft my gut VCR :D
It’s animation, but I’m dressing up as one of the three assassin types from Tekkon Kinkreet.
Anyone doing this this year? I’m not (if I go out it will probably be a very simple costume). Actually I think that the only time I have done this was as Alex DeLarge about 15 years ago. Probably the last time I put any real effort into a Halloween costume :)
I usually show up at at least two gatherings as Lord Summerisle (various forms, but never with the kilt).
Doing so requires little prep, because I look very much like that fool.
Just have to get my hair a bit bigger.
A few years ago I wanted to buy a wig, find an air tank with a hose and dress up like Anton Chigurh (Javier Bardem) from No Country for Old Men. I realized I’m a little too short to pull it off convincingly. Also, lugging around an air tank would be cumbersome.
I think I might go as Miss Doubtfire….
I went as Alex DeLarge two years ago, and obsessively assembled the costume down to the little eyballs on the cuffs. I had considered going as someone more obscure, but costumes for me usually take a while to assemble, and it would kind of suck if I put in all the effort just for nobody at Halloween parties to have a clue who I was. Plus it was pretty good timing for the Alex DeLarge costume for reasons which I won’t go into…
Anyway, I’m going to a University Halloween party this year, and six of us have made toga costumes, with the crowns, to go as the Delta House. I personally can’t wait :P

Every year, I try to outdo myself with film costumes. Most go over peoples’ heads but, for me, it’s worth it to get the reactions of those who’ve also seen the movie. Past years, I’ve been Alex DeLarge, Donnie Darko, Raul Duke, Sloth Fratelli.
Any other characters in history that are relatively easy to assemble a costume for? With Halloween falling on a Saturday this year, I’m hitting a wall on ideas.
