For me, their finest moment may be the scene in O Brother where the flood comes and interrupts the lynching – hard to top that one…
The “It’s a beautiful day” clip just gives me so many emotions in one. Huge goosebumps. Fargo is my second favorite film of all time, and that scene is probably the best moment of the film in context.
A Serious Man: “Look son, it’s another Jew!”
“Oh, Danny Boy …”
Obviously; the ashes at the end of Lebowski.
In The Big Lebowski. the Dude’s dream in which he dancing to “Just Dropped In” or maybe in O brother the car chase with Baby Face Nelson
Carla Jean Moss: Where’d you get the pistol?
Llewelyn Moss: At the gettin’ place.
Carla Jean Moss: Did you buy that gun?
Llewelyn Moss: No. I found it.
Carla Jean Moss: Llewelyn!
Llewelyn Moss: What? Quit hollerin’.
Carla Jean Moss: What’d you give for that thing?
Llewelyn Moss: You don’t need to know everything, Carla Jean.
Carla Jean Moss: I need to know that.
Llewelyn Moss: You keep runnin’ that mouth I’m gonna’ take you in the back and screw ya’.
Carla Jean Moss: Big talk.
Llewelyn Moss: Keep it up.
Carla Jean Moss: Fine. I don’t wanna’ know. I don’t even wanna’ know where you been all day.
Llewelyn Moss: That’ll work.
Steve Buscemi inside a wood chipper in Fargo!!
John Tuturro’s forest death march – Miller’s Crossing
John Goodman with a shotgun in a burning motel – Barton Fink
Gas station coin flip – No Country for Old Men
“Look at the parking lot” – A Serious Man
The final 5 minutes – A Serious Man
This is just what comes to mind at the moment. Its been too long since I’ve seen Fargo for me to recall any parts specifically, and theres still a lot of films in their canon for me to see. I also included no scenes from O Brother, Where Art Thou? because I couldn’t decide on any scenes, and I was coming close to just quoting the whole film right here.
Agree with Fargo’s “It’s a beautiful day” moment and NCfOM’s “Call it” moment shown above. Also from NCfOM, the moment when Tommy Lee Jones enters the motel and we see Anton, who may or may not be waiting for him behind the door.
