2001
3 of Rohmer’s 6 Moral Tales
Last Tango in Paris
Annie Hall (and it’s been recommended by Netflix for years)
Jules and Jim
Bottle Rocket
Requiem for a Dream
There Will Be Blood (but it’s on my queue!)
…and a bunch of others.
I’m so happy that I’m not alone in my negligence—it’s true that it’s hard to keep on top of films past & present, there is SO much to watch. I like Rodney Welch’s sentiment, it will be wonderful to get around to these films and then feel foolish for waiting so long.
2001, Psycho and the Asphalt Jungle
Jeanne Dielman by Akerman; Jodorowsky – Holy Mountain & El Topo. Haven’t seen these myself, so wonder what all the fuss is about. I know many on this site have. Also have just posted these to the films I would like to see on auteurs thread. .
There’s an interesting twist to this topic – movies you own but haven’t watched yet. I’ve got several:
Salo
Robocop
Jubilee
The Rules Of The Game
The Tin Drum
The Two Of Us
The Milky Way
The Lives of Others
Hot Fuzz (sorry, no more titles starting with ‘the’)
2001
8 1/2
The Passion of Joan of Arc
A lot of Classics.
The Godfather.
Gasp, yes I know—I have been meaning to watch it, I just never get around to it.
I’ve never seen any of the Godfather.
And to tell you the truth, I don’t know if i finished Return of the king.
I saw it so long ago, I just don’t remember.
Also I’ve never finished A Clockwork Orange.
I’ve yet to watch Battleship Potemkin, although plan on watching it soon on iArthouse.com
I finally saw Rosemary’s Baby this past summer. Worth the wait. I have not seen Raging Bull…ouch, that hurt.
i saw Raging Bull again a few days ago, and it’s still as powerful as ever. If you haven’t seen it, it’s definitely worth looking forward to.
i haven’t seen anything by jodorovsky or howard hawks
Psycho
Magnificent Ambersons
Raging Bull
Barry Lyndon…
…shame forbids me to continue (though—the horror!—I could).
i havent seen 8/12, or wild strawberries, and most of the other movies mentioned above
8 1/2, North By Northwest
“The Red Shoes.”
I am ashamed…
Fanny & Alexander, Cries & Whispers, Amarcord, Jules & Jim
So many. I have too many interests. But the most shameful are Notorious, Pierrot le Fou, Five Easy Pieces, 8 1/2, and Seven Samurai.
Also: Citizen Kane.
There are many, I’m sure, film study is a continuing process and though I’ve been at it for well over a decade now there are still films by big directors like Tarkovsky, Fellini, Bergman, Mizoguchi, and Ford, to name a few, that I haven’t seen. I’ll confess one here, just for the sake of the post, Powell and Pressburger’s “The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp”; I mention it as a huge fan of The Archers, and for the fact that I actually have the disc in my collection, begging for me to get to it already.
I feel like the moment that I don’t have anything to write on this list will be a sad moment… with that said the things I’m most embarrassed about are my lack of Kurosawa filmic viewings as well as the fact that I’ve only seen s few Bergman films…. but then again, It’s fun to go through a phase where you pick a director and watch as much as possible and I feel both of those directors coming…
The Godfather, Citizen Kane, 8 1/2, Salo, Gone With the Wind.
There are a lot of “shouldas” that I haven’t gotten to yet: Last Temptation of Christ, Schindler’s List, and most of Lawrence of Arabia among them. And though I’m a fan of the Coen brothers, I have yet to see Miller’s Crossing.
casablanca. just never got around to it.
I would take a bullet for Terrence Malick, but I’ve never seen Badlands.
i’ve got a BUNCH of unopened Criterion titles (without naming titles, I think the fact that they are Criterions establishes my point). I bought them, and I will get to them, but have not as of yet. In fact, I watched a ahem new release Hollywood ‘comedy’ the other night from Netflix and as it flickered on my screen, I thought I could hear my unopened Criterion titles weep for the wasted time. ‘You should be watching me! yelled Young Torless.. ’Open me, let me breathe, turn ’STEP BROTHERS’ off!’ begged Kagemuska. Sometimes you just go for the fluff.
I’ve not seen anything by Dreyer (though I’ve seen Lars von Treir’s Medea, which was based on his script) or Bresson. I’ve owned Kagemusha for about three years but haven’t gotten to it. I haven’t got to Casablanca yet, either.
Rodney Welch
Tell you the truth, I envy anyone who gets to see a lot of these films for the first time.
