Consistently natural acting you have seen

Is there any acting in a film what you would call natural? No manners and no “performance” at all. I can’t think of any, not even after having seen many great films with great actors.

Rodney Dangerfield and James Garner are both very natural and wonderful actors

the acting in husbands i thought was pretty natural. in most cassavetes movies i find it natural. there’s more drama to it, the acting is spot on.

That’s what good acting is supposed to be. A good actor doesn’t perform, he becomes the character. So I’m guessing you have never seen a single instance of good acting, which is hard to believe…

I like to see director’s act. Martin Scorsese when acting seems exactly like Martin Scorsese when being interviewed, or shot on the set of something. Now you may say that he’s acting all the time, in character all the time, but it does meet a definition of what some would call natural—maybe not Blue Lagoon natural, but New York neurotic, egotistical, frenetic director-turned-actor natural. In cases like this, casting the natural for the character in the screenplay is pretty important. Porn actors and actresses too. The ones who can actually cum with lights, camera, crew, director, still camera, etc in their face, that’s a type of natural, and rare. Though they look like porn actresses just trying to do what they have to do to get their check at the end of the day, they are just porn actresses looking to get their check at the end of the day. Michael Fassbinder in Shame was ridiculous in his sex scenes, whereas Rocco Siffredi seems right at home. Most porn directors are Bressonian at heart, you can quote me on that.

I’m partial to watching actors in scenes without dialog, but when they have to silently communicate some emotion, or even a story point. Isabelle Huppert can do that, she can do a lot.
