Corbucci*
goota love that spaghetti
check out Bullet For The General.
its a great spaghetti western. Django is ok too
Don’t forget The Great Silence, another very good one from Corbucci. The Big Gundown is another favorite spaghetti western of mine.
Django can be watched on Veoh.com I am going to check it out tonight. I really want to see The Big Gundown and The Great Silence too. I’d appreciate any other recommendations of great spaghettis or less know gems or obscure ones that are great.
Ny Name Is Nobody is a decent comment on the genre and also on the importance of heroes and myths. It’s pretty good, but it takes a more humorous approach to the genre. Sabata and Day of Anger are good ones too, but they’re a little problematic in terms of pace and script, in my opinion. Blindman is a fun personal favorite, with an interesting storyline. You shouldn’t expect a Leone level masterpiece out of it, but I love it anyway. Ringo Starr plays one of the villains. I’m not kidding.
I think I’m going to submit all of these movies to The Auteurs… They should be in the database.
Of the five hundred Italian Westerns produced in that brief seven years before they began to be parodies of themselves, ( Some played for outright laughs, The Trinity films , and some on a par with Plan Nine From Outer Space, Once Upon a Time In The Wild, Wild West). Several actually achieved greatness, The Great Silence, Django, Death Rides A Horse, Sartana, and the sequel (or perhaps continuation is a better word) Companeros. Only one film, Sergio Leones’ Once Upon A Time In The West was ever able to escape the moniker spaghetti western and finally be recognized as the masterpiece ( I don’t use that word often or lightly) it truly is.
Keoma by Enzo Castellari (of the original Inglorious Bastards) is one of the better spaghettis, with Franco Nero as Keoma. Made in 1976, it was one of the last of the genre. Also, it has a unique soundtrack that some find nearly intolerable.
Thanks for posting that site! I’ve never seen the Mercenary. I have a collection of spaghetti’s, mostly all mentioned above and a few more. They do grow on you.
Netflix has a couple spaghetti dvds that are four on one disc with Corbucci’s Minnesota Clay on one of them. Netflix also has Navajo Joe and the Hellbenders.
One I’d really like to see is Tepepa with Orson Welles.
That one was just alright, here are some great ones:
Faccia a Faccia
Cemetary Without Crosses
A Bullet for the General
Day of Anger
Death Rides a Horse
Thanks everybody, I have a bunch to check out. Has anyone ever seen Fulci’s Massacre Time? It’s also on that website(veoh) I read that it is kind of a rip off of Django, which I will be watching soon.
Just watched Django. I liked The Mercenary more but it was still good. Next up on Veoh are Massacre Time, Navajo Joe, and Johnny Yuma
