Ok now I’m really done.

That 25% coupon was just too nice to pass up, so I asked for my Dec. allowance early and bought…..

Eclipse Series 11: Larisa Shepitko

I’m not a member, and I got the 25% off coupon in my email today, so instead of ordering Seventh Seal on-line, I went to the store at lunch. I ended up buying the box set of 4 Bergman films instead It was just too good a deal! Even with our highest sales tax in the country of 10%, it was $41 and change total. $37 before taxes. Whoo-hoo!

So far:

Wings of Desire
Royal Tenenbaums
Ingmar Bergman Four Masterworks

I’m still mulling over which noir to buy. That’ll be my last purchase.

Hehe….I guess I’m not done with this sale just yet. I decided that with “Contempt” and “Ran” now oop…might as well get it now while B&N offers it. I wonder if anyone got their “Nights of Cabiria” when they still had it online.

Also added, Earrings of Madame De.., Jules et Jim, Trafic and Antonio Gaudi.

The only ones that I decided to wait on are the Berlin Alexanderplatz, two Ingmar Bergman Box Sets, Louis Malle box set, two of the Max Ophuls films: La Ronde, Le Plaisir, A Night to Remember, Mishima/Patriotism and three Godard films: Masculin Feminin, 2 or 3 things and Made In U.S.A.. Next time…Next Sale… But for now, this should keep me busy.

I set a goal of getting at least 65% off any purchases I made during this B&N sale. With my wife’s help (she’s a B&N member entitled to an additional 10% discount) and those on-line coupons, I was able to reach my objective. I mainly focused on box sets to maximize my savings. I purchased:

Cassavetes 4 Films
Olivier’s Shakespeare
Rossellini History Films
Late Ozu
Essential Cinema, vol. 4
JEANNE DIEHLMANN

I haven’t watched most of these films in decades. Now I can view them at my leisure.

Does anybody know of any non-member cupons?
Is the one for 25% for members only?

Thanks

Kelvin

non-members can use the coupon as well; KNDY posted the coupon on this page – if you look at it, it doesn’t have the B&N member card logo on it, so go ahead and take advantage of it

Will be getting:

Bergman’s Trilogy

La Strada

Wings Of Desire

Human Condition

the last two being blind buys (heard lots about, never seen, love both directors)

Badly broke now and need to stop buying DVDs since there’s many that I didn’t even see yet in my library but I couldn’t resist B & N’s crazy sale

what’s everyone think of Repulsion?

Drew Gregory

Repulsion is fantastic. Its disturbing, yet entertaining. Its brilliantly acted, brilliantly directed, and the transfer looks and sounds great. I highly recommend it.

How does the Human Condition stand next to Kobayashi’s other films, Hara Kiri especially?

Berjuan

Thats great! Thanks!

If you are a member do you get the 10% plus the 25% for the cupon?

“Badly broke now and need to stop buying DVDs since there’s many that I didn’t even see yet in my library but I couldn’t resist B & N’s crazy sale”…… Same here, but this sale’s too hard to resist. Probably I’ll do one last round. Is the Bergman Trilogy worth a blind buy?

Berjuan: If you are a member you get the 10% off and you can also take advantage of the 15% and 10% off coupons that are still left. Final three days of the sale….hope everyone got what they wanted.

Not sure if these are member or non-member coupons but just in case, here they are again:

ONLINE Purchase – Additional 15% off: W4B4D8M
ONLINE Purchase – Additional 10% off: U7W3C9M

And the printed 25% off coupon that ends tomorrow if you go in-store:

http://images.barnesandnoble.com/pimages/email/2009/11/HGG/1119_non_landing_03.gif

And I’m not sure if any of you share the same sentiment but I’m kind of happy the sale is ending soon…hehe… Spent way too much.

Berjuan

KNDY thanks, that 25% coupon was really useful. Thanks to the 25% coupon and an awesome clerk that allowed me to use it multiple times I got:

Patriotism
Double Suicide
The Human Condition Box set
Fanny and Alexander Box set

I’m going on a trip soon so my budget was limited. I’m only waiting for Kwaidan now and that is it!

RogerHayn, B&N and Criterion can afford a 50% sale because of the volume they are going to move. You do know that DVDs cost these companies a pittance in relation to how much they sell them for, right?

James

Sorry if this has been asnwered how long is the sale going?

James

HAL 9000

@Joshua Repulsion is fantastic. The film really puts you in the mind of Catherine Deneuve’s character. I used to have another copy but I replaced it with the Criterion one. This one has a commentary by Deneuve and Polanski. There’s also some good extras on it that I have yet to watch, but I did sneak a peek at one of them for a brief moment where it shows Roman Polanski directing. It’s definitely worth buying.

Absolute Final Tally:

Kagemusha (Blu-Ray)
The Third Man (Blu-Ray)
The Vanishing
Rashomon
Bob Le Flambeur
Red Beard
Le Cercle Rouge
Bad Timing
Le Samourai
The Bad Sleep Well
Army of Shadows
Sweet Movie
Dodes’ka-den
Wings of Desire (Blu-Ray)
Downhill Racer
Jeanne Dielman
Chungking Express (Blu-Ray)
Empire of Passion
The Fallen Idol
Pickup on South Street

I hope no one’s expecting Christmas presents this year.

Jef: Bergman’s Trilogy is wonderful, if you like his other stuff especially films like Seventh Seal you will love these three films.

Does anyone have Three Films by Hiroshi Teshigahara? I haven’t seen any, but am very interested by what I’ve seen of the trailers, and it would be a shame to pass up getting it half off if the sale ends on the 24th like Rocky and bullwinkle says. I’m also interested in the nikkatsu noir set, but again, haven’t seen any. They any good?

Kelvin

Ironic that you posted that, I’ve got the Teshigahara’s box set in my lap right now as I type this, about to open it – I have no advice for you – though, I bought it blind, myself
