ok so you just cant become a member on the b&n website. You have to become a member for that costs $25 a year or something right? I was kind of confused about how it all worked
Originally had “L’Eclisse” but part of me tells me that “The Rules of the Game” is better and I can find the former much cheaper than the latter. I’m still on the fence with “Scenes of a Marriage”, I’ve wanted to see that for so long and the fact that it has three-discs is appealing but at the same time, I still have yet to upgrade my “Seven Samurai” to the 2006 release.
Still no change to the Blu-ray prices. Only “Wings of Desire” is the only Blu-ray on sale.
$25 a year. $2-3 off most criterions and free shipping. I already made mine worthwhile with the last sale. This is so pathetic.
So I’m thinking of buying the Cassavetes box set. I’ve only seen A Woman Under the Influence, and that was about six years ago; so basically this would be a blind buy. The problem is I was planning on using the %20 off code on BN’s website, but it didn’t work. Should I wait to see if any other coupons or codes come along? I remember last time this sale happened it seemed like those box sets ran out of stock quickly, but I might be wrong.
Also any suggestions on must haves? I only have about 10 Criterion DVDs, and I like to use these sales to fill in gaps.
Tommy: You can have an account and still get the 50% off….creating a new account you also can use the 20% off code: C3X7J9K or F4B9F7R to take off another $10-$13.00 off. [you don’t have to be become a member]
Benjamin: I bought the Cassavetes box yesterday. Actually, most of all the expensive box sets, I would take advantage of with the 50% off and then the additional 20% off.
And in case you want to buy online a second time, you can use the additional 5% off code: F7C3H7F
These codes can be used only once.
Just an FYI: Someone has posted on another forum (http://forum.dvdtalk.com/9827119-post225.html) that they went to B&N today and used seven of the printed coupons on Criterion Blu-rays in one day and got them each for $13.00 (he must have been a member to get the additional 10% off).
OOOOOOOOOOOOOH! Looks like we’re winning!!! Keep it up guys!
Contacted Barnes & Noble right now and right now speaking to them and just informed them of the pricing problem with the Blu-rays. They just caught it right now.
Hopefully they will fix it now!
What if we all robbed a bank together? It could work!!
Holy $hit The Adventures of Antoine Doinel box set is included! (I’m pretty sure it wasn’t last time). Should I get it? I mean, I know and love The 400 Blows, but does anyone know if the rest of the films any good?
Already added Monsoon Wedding, Wings of Desire, Hiroshima, mon amour, and The Passion of Joan of Arc to the cart. online. Also considering High and Low and Yojimbo/Sanjuro. Will probably get Louis Malle’s 3 Films box set later.
Oooooooooh this is so exciting!
brd trilogy, M, the lower depths, le samourai, beauty and the beast, and wild strawberries? check
dp
Dan: I was in the same situation and purchased it. The lowest I have seen it was $59-$64…so I got it for $39 with the 20% off coupon. And many fans have said the box set for “The Adventures of Antoin Doinel” is definitely worth it. Also, it’s one thing to enjoy the film “The 400 Blows” but would feel incomplete if I haven’t watched the sequels. But yeah, all box sets are on sale!
John,
Mishima, Bicycle Thieves and Last Year at Marienbad are all excellent films. I really liked the commentary on the Mishima disc, too.
Just ordered:
The Spirit of the Beehive
Chunking Express
Wings of Desire
Jules et Jim
In the Realm of the Senses
Bergman Island
DANIELLA: Yay for the Spirit of the beehive!!!!!
I think I may also buy the red balloon.
It seems like a great many of us are about to own Wings of Desire. This can only be a good thing.
I’ve never seen Wings Of Desire, :(
Then you’re lucky to have the chance to one day experience it for the first time.
I just hope everything gets here in good condition. I usually buy from Amazon and everything arrives in mint condition but this is the first time with B&N…
For those of you thinking about splurging on some Kurosawa films – AK100 will be out in less than a month. You should be able to pick it up for $300. Of course if you can wait until the next B&N 50% off sale it should be $200! Well worth it.
I know Christmas is coming around the corner, and I should probably just alert my parents to this sale and wait till then. But the Hiroshi Teshigahara set is calling me! Maybe a blind buy of Floating Weeds as well.
Luckily, B&N is a short drive from my office so made a quick trip and picked up:
Forbidden Games
The 400 Blows
Sansho the Bailiff
Sword of Doom
I’m sure there will be at least one more B&N Criterion run before the sale is over.
Just bought the John Cassavetes: Five Films collection for $51, the Bergman Trilogy for $33, plus several more….this has been a great day. I think I’ll make another trip before closing.
ordered:
high and low
brand upon the brain!
the friends of eddie coyle
the seventh seal
empire of passion
the hit
vengeance is mine
I’m thinking of ordering some titles online, but I would like to know what their policy is for missing/damaged items; I cannot find any reference to this on their site. Does anyone have any experience with this – how good are B/N Customer Services if there are problems? Particularly with regards to international shipping.
Hey guys…if you’re going to the store, here are the printable coupons if you haven’t done it already. Print the $5 ones as many as you want from what I’m reading:

JULES: Well, Barnes & Noble is a major book chain, so I would expect that you shouldn’t have problems with missing or damaged items. But hopefully everything gets to you perfectly.
since we’re sharing…
picked up:
le cercle rouge
wings of desire
bergman island
question (open to all): i am thinking about getting a film or two that i haven’t seen. would anyone recommend me doing a blind buy on any of these titles below:
- walkabout
- au hasard balthazar (this looks good, but i see the cover and description and my heart automatically goes out to that animal. does this have a super sad ending?)
- fists in the pocket
thanks for the help.
Bought in-store:
Pierrot Le Fou
Ordered online:
Z
Wings Of Desire
In The Realm Of The Senses
Patriotism
Charade
Picnic At Hanging Rock
I may do like 5 more titles, but I really can’t afford any of this right now… oy.
Drew.
1. The Red Shoes
2. The Tales of Hoffman
3. A Matter of Life and Death
4. The Life and Death of Col. Blimp
All five out of five stars in my opinion. My suggestion to anyone who has switched to Blu Ray is to buy The Tales of Hoffman and rent The Red Shoes, but to those who have not switched and don’t plan on switching soon buy The Red Shoes now!
I may be going to B&N today. I’m super excited!
