I wonder if the 5 cows is relevant…maybe 5 has something to do with it? There ARE 5 cows shown in Satantango during that delicious tracking shot….just saying….I counted.
Satantango would be strange, given that Facets already has it on DVD.
^^Agree, i figured that if Criterion were going to release it, they would have done it years ago.
You never know though.
If they do, that would be great, because it would equal more exposure for Tarr, which is obviously a good thing.
Can there not be Kino/Criterion/Facets, etc. crossover? I have seen films available on Criterion also having other region 1 dvd releases in print simultaneously (i.e. 8 1/2).
It’s possible, but since they’re essentially selling to the same people, it wouldn’t make a lot of sense, business-wise. Especially when you’re talking about a film that’s going to sell for about twice what a typical Criterion title sells for.
Lean/Coward film maybe?
Matt ^^ great sleuthing… or wild stretch(?!)
maybe…Blithe Spirit OR In Which We Serve
Blithe Spirit gets my vote though I’ve not see IN WHICH WE SERVE.
I’ve seen them both and I don’t recall any cow-connection. But now that I think of it – I may need to watch In Which We Serve again. There is a scene where they’re on a train going to their honeymoon and…I think…there is a rural setting flashing by which may include cows.
I don’t see where the Lean/Coward connection comes in, but it might be a good guess.
“lean cow herd” is the connection Matt came up with… pretty clever!
LOL – Awesome!
Dang! Good one!!
The Lean/Coward connection has already been made on Criterion Forum so it isn’t much of a revelation (Did you go there Matt?). The users over there are usually pretty good at predicting things. The truth is that Criterion’s clues are becoming more cryptic. It could really mean anything involving cows.
Nope. Skinny made me think of “lean.” I was stuck of the talking cows in Great Expectations (which is already Criterion, of course) for a long time.
It’s a good guess.
I don’t think that we ever came to a consensus about that alcohol guzzling dog…….
I still vote Drunken Angel and Stray Dog on BD for the drunken dog
No clue on that one . . . still.
I still vote Drunken Father Figure of Old for the drunken dog.

A for effort Matt
My Fanny & Alexander blu-ray set arrived today.
It’s one of those films that I’ve always wanted to watch somehow managed to not get around to it until now so I’ve a quick question, which version do people recommend watching first? Does it really matter which one I watch?
It’s worth bearing in mind that it’s likely to be some time before I spend time with the other version of the film.
Is Preminger’s LAURA coming to Criterion? It’s a “Criterion” presentation on the upcoming Film Forum schedule (NYC)
It might Jaspar. I know that Anatomy of a Murder is going to be making an appearance.
I heard about Laura’s reputation and I dig noir and noir influenced films so i mos def wanna see it.I got mad when I set the dvr cause it was playin on TCM like a week or 2 ago and it didn’t record cause my dvr was full lol :’(
I really liked the man with the golden arms and that’s the only film I seen by him
Does any 1 know anything about them releasing more nick ray ?
I know johnny guitar gets brought up the most by people 4 them 2 release and I would like 2 see them release that 2 but what about the chance of them releaseing “the lusty men” or “they live by night”?
Lusty Men would be a treat! Any good release of it.

Criterion Pictures ≠ The Criterion Collection
http://www.criterionpic.com/
Criterionpic is in no way associated with Criterion Collection – they are two totally different entities. Also I’m not sure where you’re seeing “Criterion” on the Film Forum site.
http://www.filmforum.org/comingsoon.html
Just because films are being shown at this theater doesn’t mean Criterion Collection will be releasing them – nor is FF in any way owned or associated with CC or Janus films.
Sigh…
If you look at the Fall/Winter repertory calendar for Film Forum, you can see that LAURA is described as “A Criterion Pictures Release of a Twentieth Century Fox Film,” which evidently led to the confusion.
thanks for clarifying the LAURA thing…it WOULD make a great addition.
Yo I wasn’t sure if some1 posted about this or if this was mentioned b4 on here but if not then check out this link
