If Criterion releases Weekend, I’m throwing away all my Criterions.
Both of you survived Michael Bay’s inclusion, so I’m sure you’ll be fine.
haha! The Rock is one of my favorite Criterions!
That’s adorable!
lol
Does anyone know why we’ve seen only 2 Chaplin films? Those movies would seem like a nice asset for CC, but they’re in a holding pattern. Are they having restoration problems?
In other news, this is one of the lame CC announcement, even for CC. I’ve already seen all these movies except World on a Wire, and I don’t really care much about that one. The only positive here is that I’ll get to see Anatomy of a Murder again. Haven’t seen that since my high school psychology teacher showed it to us.
Finally get to check out Anatomy, been waiting to watch that one forever.
We Kaufman fans are a patient lot and will gladly welcome his fantastic debut into the collection next month (or the month after).
ALSO THIS ^
Haha, joke’s on you Criterion! I’m about to watch Anatomy of a Murder on VHS, so take that!!! :)
Pretty much the only thing I like better than Criterion is reading people complain about Criterion!
I don’t care if they release THAT Weekend, but they HAVE TO RELEASE Godard’s WEEKEND at some point…
The latest Criterion e-mail has a picture of a chimpanzee, wearing a diaper, attached to wires like a marionette. Anyone?
Being John. Booya.
Oh yeah. Ah, well. More money I’ll be saving.
if it’s being john malkovich i’m definitely getting it.

Elijah!
I can understand the marionette reference to Being John Malkovich since John Cusack’s character is a puppeteer but what is the monkey in reference to? I haven’t seen the film in a few years and am wondering if the monkey could be referencing a different film.
Nope. His wife has a monkey. It’s BJM.
But did we ever figure out those cows? (don’t think it referred to any of this week’s announcements.)

Santino, I can comprehend the statement in regards to the “love affair with Malle” being they have now 11 of his films in the collection (I don’t have a problem with any of the ones they’ve selected, by the way, and would LOVE to see ‘Atlantic City’ get the Criterion treatment), HOWEVER, your Fassbinder comment is somewhat curious… ‘World on a Wire’ will only be the sixth Fassbinder in the collection. Considering that Fassbinder made 44 films, I don’t think this warrants as a “love affair” (especially considering his importance in film history, especially to the German New Wave specifically, as compared to a Wes Anderson with whom they have released 5 titles out of only 6 films made).
Where’s Jacques Rivette? I’m sure they have a Rivette film or two they’re currently sitting on that they the rights to release but just haven’t yet.
“But did we ever figure out those cows?”
Pretty sure it’s something to do with one or more of the Lean-Coward collaborations.
We have a couple of people here who seem to have special knowledge about CC. Can you tell us if they plan to release physical editions of any of those Naruse movies up on Hulu?
“HOWEVER, your Fassbinder comment is somewhat curious… ‘World on a Wire’ will only be the sixth Fassbinder in the collection. "
There are a lot of filmmakers equally as good as Fassbinder who has NO films in the Criterion Collection. So yes, six is a lot when compared to none.
I’ll let the die hard Mubian cinephile point out who some of those filmmakers are.
@Picesrising — I’m not sure they have or are pursuing the rights to Rivette.
Hulu gives you some idea of the titles they control and Rivette just ain’t in the mix.
His Region 1 catalog has become virtually non-existent. Not so bad if you have a multi region player.
I have a fix for your Rivette boner. Celine and Julie Go Boating is coming to Blu-Ray this Spring from New Yorker.
You’re welcome.
Kaufman script, Spike directing, Carter Burwell on music, lance acord on photography…. yeah, BJM is the real deal. I cannot wait to see the cover art. VERY excited.
last two months of Criterion announcements have been a complete washout for me.
which is good of course, means i can save money.
ppl really ‘wait’ to watch a movie till CC drops it?
Tonda
Excited about Sans Soleil and Anatomy. But would have thrown ALL these titles away for Malcovich
