I can confirm that Rosemary’s Baby is coming to Criterion (hopefully by September).
Those of you who guessed correctly on the newsletter hint: give yourself a pat on the back.
Cool, thanks Santino.
I have my suspicions that Under the Blossoming Cherry Trees by Masahiro Shinoda will be out for Halloween.
I wonder if they’ll try to release Shinoda’s version of Silence in conjunction with the upcoming Scorsese adaptation. Would seem like good marketing to me.
^assuming Scorsese’s film ever actually happens (his next movie is that Wall Street film w/Leo – shocking, I know).
I can confirm that Rosemary’s Baby is coming to Criterion (hopefully by September).
How can you confirm that? Are you allowed to say? And what’s with all these secretive Criterion rumor confirmations?
^^Santino has connections to the Criterion mafia.
lol.
No, I’m not allowed to say.
Can you say why you’re not allowed to say?
^^Because Santino donna wanna sleep with da fishes

Rosemary’s Baby isn’t September, it’s October. Woops. Nevermind.
Was there ever any consensus as to that little gif with three oysters w/pearls?
Ugh… I bet I will end up buying Rosemary’s Baby on blu even though I already have the dvd. :(

wasn’t that pearls of the czech new wave? I think they’re doing 2 more eclipse sets with from the new wave
Never got the fuss about Rosemary’s Baby Then again, I’m not much of a Polanski fan, so..
According to this, two new Czech New Wave eclipses are coming.
“…Criterion plans (planned?) to release two more Czech New Wave collections:
Koreny ceske nove vlny / Roots of Czech New Wave, containing:
- O necem jinem / Something Different
- Transport z raje / Transport from Paradise
- Demanty noci / Diamonds of the Night
- Krik / The Cry
- Kazdy den odvahu / Courage for Every Day
Dozvuky ceske nove vlny / Echos of Czech New Wave
- Vsichni dobri rodaci / All My Good Countrymen
- Spalovac mrtvol / The Cremator
- Ucho / The Ear
- Valerie a tyden divu / Valerie and Her Week of Wonders"
Valerie should be Blu’d. Not too familiar with the others, but Valerie should be mainlined and Blu’d.
Valerie should be lost for all time. I sure as hell wouldn’t miss it. Courage for Every Day and The Ear are on Hulu Plus, though. Maybe I’ll check ’em out.
@ takaawesome – I’m with you on Rosemary’s Baby. I like Polanski, just don’t find this one to be great. All my horror buddies where getting on me for having not seen it do I watched it finally. They all complained about the pacing and they tried to make sure if stick with it. The pacing didn’t bother me, I just didn’t care for it. The acting is cometely ridiculous.
^ I don’t think it’s great as a horror movie, but I really enjoy watching Mia Farrow and John Cassavetes on screen together. And I really love the dream sequence. And I like it as a comment on gender roles and identity.
Cassavetes was the weakest point for me. I did like Farrow though.
i love that film to bits. perhaps you’d feel differently if you’d ever given birth lol
and ruth gordon is absolutely terrifying!!

Koreny ceske nove vlny / Roots of Czech New Wave
oh wow. that’s really interesting.
sorry to interrupt, but did i see somewhere on this thread an announcement about a pierre etaix eclipse set one day, or was that just a rumour/my imagination?
I’ll be happy if they release more Czech New Wave, but kind of disappointed if they don’t mainline it.
Ruby – If I was a girl and saw it I would never have kids. And if I did I would definitely get like 100 second opinions before doing anything.
that’s my point ^ it is a horror movie
If you put it that way Ruby, I’d say Eraserhead does a solid job of dealing with those fears (even though I don’t like Lynch).
I guess Eraserhead is a horror movie for fatherhood and Rosemary’s Baby is a horror movie for motherhood.
something like that, yeah
And I will add that I find it to be the only coherent Lynch film.
Drew.
I’d double dip for any movie in my top 10. Mark me down as excited.
