The Game
yep
?
Yojimbo and Sanjuro had already been upgraded…
Yeah, nothing that exciting for me, but at least I’m not gonna dump all over it!
Roscoe meant to say upgrade of Umberto D. lol
Umberto D and Children of Paradise….
UMBERTO D wasn’t up when I posted the above. Nice.
CHILDREN OF PARADISE they can keep. Very far away from me.
another disappointing month from criterion, at least I’m saving a lot of money.
Somebody here (Santino?) has been hyped for The Game for about a year, so it’s a good day for him. I might get The Game eventually, but its not top tier Fincher and nothing else is really exciting.
You have no idea, Brad. I’m so excited! And no doubt, the extras will be great. Love the cover too.
Now we’re just waiting for Breaking the Waves, Badlands, and Rosemary’s Baby (which I’m guessing will be announced next month).
Eh.
There’s better Fincher. I’d love a Criterion Blu of ZODIAC, still his best film.
It’s been few months since I mentioned it last, but any release list that does not include Chimes at Midnight or The Apu Trilogy is like a stab in the heart!
It’s cause there was a Game Criterion laserdisc. I’ve been waiting for this commentary for some time.
>>Now we’re just waiting for Breaking the Waves, Badlands, and Rosemary’s Baby (which I’m guessing will be announced next month).<<
Other hints coming our way:
Y Tu Mama Tambien
Weekend (the real one)
On the Waterfront
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Zodiac would’ve been an instant buy for me. The Game, not so much!
whats the point of a Criterion blu of Zodiac? US Blu-ray already is a 2 disc loaded edition
Well, I’d rather have a good Criterion Blu of ZODIAC than of THE GAME or the unspeakable horror known as BENJAMIN BUTTON.
And the US Blu-Ray of ZODIAC is out of print, you have to buy a region free I think Canadian copy from amazon or elsewhere.
oh fuck, I didn’t know that. Shouldve gotten some at my local blockbuster when they went out of business in February, they had dozens of them just sitting on the shelf for $10 for new copies. I would’ve resold for cheap (like $15 to cover shipping, vs the ridiculous starting point of $40 for a used copy on amazon)
Yeah, The Game is Fincher’s only film that has a bare bones DVD release. This has been in the works for years now and it’s nice to see he finally got some time to work w/Criterion and make it happen. All his other films have rockstar releases so unless he decides to someday record a commentary for Alien 3, he should be done working on shit from the past.
There’s always PANIC ROOM…
In Criterion’s facebook page, the most talked about of the september releases is The Game, the least interesting of the bunch.
But, hey, even Criterion needs mass public approval sometimes.
At least we’ll have two Carnés and Umberto D.
VERY happy for the BluRay of Umberto D….GOOD THINGS!
And who doesn’t like Eating Raoul?
I agree with some of the others…it would be great to have FIGHT CLUBE or SE7EN or ZODIAC..but THE GAME is ok too!
I predict that the commentary track for The Game will be 128 minutes of Fincher & Co explaining and defending why The Game should have a Criterion release, how Zodiac already has a perfectly good BD release, and why Criterion putting out Benjamin Button benefited everybody, including Criterion’s customer base.
WoW, that cover for The Game… that is fucking legit.
“And the US Blu-Ray of ZODIAC is out of print, you have to buy a region free I think Canadian copy from amazon or elsewhere.”
^ This.
You can still get it for like 20 bucks on Amazon.
Eating Raoul with The Secret Cinema as an extra - absolute must.
The package looks pretty strog.
I’m just hoping for more previously hard to find films. No risks this year due to declining DVD market?
Chimes of Midnight having no proper R1 release is criminal.

Roscoe
EATING RAOUL, VISITEURS DU SOIR, and THE GAME.
Blu Ray upgrades of YOJIMBO and SANJURO.
Edit — DOH! I misread the page.
I’ll be saving money on Criterion releases in September, it looks like. THE GAME? Really? I’d have thought that releasing the unspeakable BENJAMIN BUTTON would have repaid any debts Criterion owed to Fincher.
