Criterion DVD/Blu rays you'd recommend?

My father wants me to make a list of ten criterions I would like to have. I’ve never owned a criterion before, and don’t know which ones I should get. Part of me is tempted to just list ten favorites of mine that happen to be criterion, but I’m not sure if that would be worth it. Is it a safer bet to go with the movies I have seen and love? Or try something new? They’re expensive, so I’d like them to last a while.

So I ask you, what are the best ones out there? Thanks

One thing to consider is what extra features you get. If a film you love comes with great extras, then get that. Or if you’ve heard the quality is waaaaay better than other versions.

A couple of my favorites I own are : The Exterminating Angel and The Spirit of the Beehive. But I only own like 20 criterion films and ten are in the Rialto collection (which is great as far as variety) .

Rialto collection… Imma have to check that out.

I love Exterminating Angel. What features on that do you dig?

The interview in the booklet and the documentary. Plus the first time I saw the film it was poor quality, so just looking at this one is a thing of beauty. And I think it’s a must-own film anyway. I purchased the rialto collection during one of the 50% off sales.

Seven Samurai is a must and it comes with a shit ton of extras. I also like to get ones that have whole other films on them so they act as a kind of 2 for 1. Close Up comes with The Traveler and Certified Copy comes with The Report. If you like De Palma, Blow Out comes with Murde a la Mond.
