Now that could be very interesting, as long as he remembers story first, but his visual style lends itself quite nicely to a 3d treatment.
AWESOME! Finally some good news this week.
His Frankenstein sadly escaped him some years ago, Argento’s Dracula could be just as great and I do hope it will get made.
I don’t care about 3D, but this could be great.
I appreciate the alliteration in the title of this thread. Thank you.
I don’t care for 3D either, but if it helps to get this financed then I’m all for it.
I hope this makes it to the US in 3D. Does anyone know if Giallo will come out here anytime soon? Wikipedia claims Dario’s already renounced it; it can’t be worse than Mother of Tears.
I hope this makes it to FrightFest in London.
Ricky Giallo is his worst film by far.
I somehow found a copy at the flea market
terrible
Worst film by far is difficult to believe. I agree with Ricky that it’s hard to imagine it being worse than Mother of Tears. But, yeah, it must be something if it’s basically been dumped since it had name talent.
This guy hasn’t made a visually impressive film in years, possibly even decades, so i doubt 3D will make any difference whatsoever.
And for the record, The Card Player was infinitely worse than Mother Of Tears! ;-)
Udo Kier would be an ideal Renfield.
any of you guys seen Argento’s Phantom Of The Opera? That is horrible too. easily one of his worst.
Joks I liked Phantomof the Opera but as I said to Salem on here before, I could not tell what makes him a romantic phantom and not just a delusional bum
Yeah, Phantom is pretty awful too. Haven’t seen the Card Player. Is it possible that Argento’s last decent film was Phenomena?
Do you Like Hitchcock was a fantastic thriller, plays very well next to its inspiration
Yeah, that wasn’t completely terrible but it was visually bland and flat.
“Is it possible that Argento’s last decent film was Phenomena?”
Very. That was the last Argento film that ‘worked’ for me. Films like Trauma etc had certain elements i liked, but overall i wasn’t satisfied. Same goes for most Argento films really. I must say that the older i get, the less i appreciate his work.
Suspiria is still good though.
DEN: Do you like Phantom for its camp value then?
well that is true somewhat about the visuals, tho it was made for Italian tv on a shoestring budget, lot of suspense imo, makes some well regarded suspense films seem like an episode of Murder She Wrote
^^What about The Card Player Den? did you like that one too? Looks like it was shot for television.
yeah I like the card player
Ricky: GIALLO is in fact worse that MOTHER OF TEARS. Though the fact that I watched a dubbed Polish version of the DVD (without understanding Polish) probably didn’t lend itself to the most serious viewing of the movie, it at least allowed me to focus on what was happening visually….which is to say: not much.
DRACULA 3D could be great! I was just proposing the Coppolla 3D thread that his DRACULA might have been conceived of quite successfully in 3D (as great and imagination as it already is on two dimensions), but Argento could do an even more whacked out take on the original.
Also, don’t folks think OPERA (not PHANTOM OF THE…, but TERROR AT THE…) is pretty great? It certainly devolves into proto-torture-porn, but for the first hours, I thought is was fairly virtuosic.
I like Opera quite a bit myself; that may be the last real peak Argento. I like that & Phenomena getting some credit here, because I’ve seena horror snob & legit critical tendency to cut him off at Tenebre.
I like that Phantom too, it’s just screwy enough for me. Trauma & Stendahl aren’t great but have interesting points. I found card Player & Hitchcock dull & forgettable, but watchable.I’m still not sure what the hell Mother of Tears was supposed to be.
Has Dario actually cared about any of these films in years? I guess if he needs money I can’t really hold it against him, but he’s seemed to be treading water for awhile now.
I think Asia’s become an interesting director; neither Scarlet Diva or Heart is Deceitful Above All Things is an easy watch, but I recommend them both.
“I must say that the older i get, the less i appreciate his work.”
I agree with this 100%, Joks.
I may third that. Some of his stuff seemed like the coolest thing on the planet when I was 15. Now, it can be a little rough.
i really liked The Stendhal Syndrome. more than Phenomena at least.
It sounds interesting. can;t wait for it
This could go either way… I’m kind of excited about the prospect, but as to whether or not I actually want to see it will all depend on how Argento does it. I’ll hold out for a trailer, or at the very least some promotional stills. I want a return to form.
PS. Is anyone else completely sick and tired of the latest vampire trend? They’ve just about re-invented it as much as they can, can we let it rest now? Please?
With Argento, Scorsese, and Joe Dante working with 3-D, we should get an idea of whether or not it can do anything more interesting that what’s been done so far.

Dracula 3D
Horror legend Dario Argento (“Suspiria”) is planning a period-set 3D “Dracula” film to shoot in Italy next January says Film Shaft. Argento apparently plans to stay faithful to Bram Stoker’s classic novel.
