I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: The Reflecting Skin. Not grunge era – but the ultimate dark kid coming of age thing.
I’d also highly recommend Fish Tank.
Perhaps I was too vague in my initial post, but an early 90s setting is not a requirement in this thread. I’m not interested in finding films from that time period, just ones dealing with similar subject matter.
Fat Girl and Fish Tank are exactly the sort of examples I had in mind.
