Despite having misgivings relating to ANY remake, this has the potential to be … not too terrible. Green is a talented filmmaker and he usually can keep his sensibility in check (key word = usually), and a Suspiria update wouldn’t hurt. I doubt it’ll be as relevant as the original, but still, we’ll see.
Now, if they can get Goblin to do the soundtrack again, then I’d be all over this!
I like David Gordon Green as a director, I just hope he’s able to pull out all of the visual stops that are required (at least, for me). The visuals/colors MADE that movie for me, I hope they do not overlook that. Otherwise, it would just be a movie about a house of witches
Pineapple Express made it very hard for me to take him seriously even though I love all three of his earlier films but yes, I wouldn’t worry about this he knows what he’s doing…
I’ve liked everything he’s done, but I’m surprised he’s taking this on.
Suspiria was awesome!
Judging from the recent trajectory of his work, reports of Green’s auteurism have been greatly exaggerated.
Oh, but Matt, this one definitely needs a remake…ya know, make it more orderly, less camp, and uh ….lol
Green should make his own Witch House movie and should come up with a name himself, Suspiria cannot be remade. The fantastic use of technicolor, the soundtrack and stylization are all part of the movie. There is no purpose in copying it all (and I doubt that Green would) but without it it’s not Suspiria but just any other Teen + Witches movie.
Hope Argento at least gets a buck or two out of it or that it helps him get the go on his new Dracula project.
I think it’s blasphemy! Why remake a stylistic masterpiece? Plus it probably won’t have as good a soundtrack as Goblin
I’m sure it won’t be as good. I’ll admit the first time I saw it I didn’t much care for Suspiria, but I should re watch. I will say the use of techni-color, the colors, the bright red blood, and the campiness were it’s strong points and those things just don’t exist in modern cinema.
How could anyone not enjoy Pinneapple Express??? lol.
Yeah, for his sake, he’d better make it TOTALLY different than the original….come up with a completely distinct style. Shoot in black and white with an atonal symphonic score.
I think a black and white with random color, like a Sin City format would be kinda cool for this. Just my opinion.
Will Jessica Harper be involved. She could play Alida Valli’s part.
And how about the lead?
Asia?
Plus there’s GOT to be a role for Udo Kier.
I don’t know, to see anything on the big screen remotely resembling the color rush of the original would be too sweet imo.
There’s nothing in Green’s filmography that makes me think he’s up to this.
As much as I like the cinematography and that shrieking Goblin music, I don’t think Suspiria is all that great. Too little happens…and even though Jessica Walter is an odd screen presence, she doesn’t really do much.
Ellen Page should play the lead.
-Asia?-
Green could not handle Asia, David
Oh sure he could. She’s easy.
I will not see this but it cannot be worse than The Mother of Tears. Then again, nothing can.
Ouch.
Still – - – she was in XXX. Rob Cohen < David Gordon Green.
He’s got to top THIS
Miasma
And the thread begins!
Argento says it’s alright.
