Edwin (Blind Pig Who Wants to Fly) – 0 vs Michael Winterbottom (Wonderland) – 1
Edwin (Blind Pig Who Wants to Fly) – 0 vs Michael Winterbottom (Wonderland) – 1
Normally I’d provide an explanation, but it’s really a coin flip, as neither film really struck me in any way. I’ll take Wonderland because it doesn’t sound like whoever was doing the soundtrack had only heard one song before.
Wish I could vote – this might be Winterbottom’s best film.
Why can’t you vote, Bob? You’re not grounded, are you?
I am as indecisive about these particular films as a day ago, but thought that it would be interesting to see more Edwin (expecting something unexpected) rather than Winterbottom, so
Edwin (Blind Pig Who Wants to Fly) 1 – 0 vs Michael Winterbottom (Wonderland) – 0
Edwin (Blind Pig Who Wants to Fly) – 1 vs Michael Winterbottom (Wonderland) – 0
Edwin (Blind Pig Who Wants to Fly) – 1 vs Michael Winterbottom (Wonderland) – 0
Weaving Wave, the loser of this match (and all group play matches) will not be eliminated. Both directors will show at least two more films.
Believe it’s another tie: 17-17
STILL A TIE
Voting is extended for another 24 hours (or possibly forever ;)
DELANO CHRISTOVEL had a double post… still a tie at 17-17 !!!
Edwin (Blind Pig Who Wants to Fly) – 0 vs Michael Winterbottom (Wonderland) – 1
Yes, at the deadline it was a tie, so I’ve modified my post. After Pierre’s vote it’s now
18—17 Winterbottom
Edwin (Blind Pig Who Wants to Fly) – 1 vs Michael Winterbottom (Wonderland) – 0
…from the bottom of my heart :)

i just called to say how much i care… (tanjepis)
Aw shoot, I was actually going to compare Dog Days to something I thought an older, slower paced Harmoney Korine would make, but now I don’t want to overuse the comparisons.
Hrrmmmm. How to voice my thoughts on this…. Well…. The thing is, I like what Edwin is trying to say, and I could see whilst I was watching the film that it was trying to say something about cultural identity, however I think the film could do with more…clarity maybe? I mean, Edwin’s discussion of his movie is great and it reveals a lot of the intentions he had behind certain scenes but as an audience member those intentions were not communicated effectively to me by the film. As an audience member I do not want to be beaten over the head, but at the same time if a film is trying to tackle subject matter that its filmmaker sees as very important for people to know about then I’d like it if it would lay out its ideas somewhat clearly – I’m not dumb, but I’m no mindreader either.
Cecil, I feel the same way. The article from Edwin that I read after watching the movie was very insightful, but I would have not had any idea what he was getting at without using that as a supplement. It reminds me of watching a Crispin Glover film and then having his Q&A afterwards. I think that’s the only reason he won’t show his films without having himself be present. They wouldn’t make any sense without him being there to explain them.
Thx Risselada, any comments are welcomed…now I need to watch a Crispin Glover film
I can also say that I had that Stevie Wonder song playing in my head for weeks afterwards. I was often singing it out loud to whoever was around me trying to get them to join in. I couldn’t even help it.
Although I voted for Wonderland I didn’t love it either. Those kind of shakey camera “real life” urban ensemble dramas that have all the different domestic problems without any of the irony or humor just bog me down too much. I hate the title too. “Wonderland”. It’s so broad and cloying. Just like “In America”. It’s good for what it is though. There are a lot worse ones out there.
i’m still singing it!!!! it’s driving me mad!!! i don’t care about new years day or june!!! argh!
Didn’t vote….
I am also still singing it, and it didn’t help that for some reason Lionel Richie came up in conversation on a sports radio talk show I was listening to on Saturday! SO I STARTED SINGING IT THEN, TOO!
But my goodwill for the film overrides and it’s such a cheery song, anyway. Very much the way I felt about California Dreamin and Chungking Express.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Why did you have to bring that up? That was even worse! That film ruined that song for me.
You crazy, Riss. Who doesn’t love Chungking Express? I’m suspending your licence.
That’s blasphemy Risselada! Favourite film ever…

Who doesn’t love Chungking Express?
Me. I also dislike the film it ripped off, Breathless.
Although my viewing of Chungking Express may have been sullied by the fact that a friend of mine rented it seeing Tarantino’s “Rolling Thunder” distributor name on it and told everyone to come over to his house to watch a great “chop-socky” film. It turned out to be something quite different obviously.

tiebreaker time!
