I thought this would be useful. We need somewhere for me to announce stuff where I’m sure people will see announcements (rather than them getting lost in the Voting Secrets thread or ignored on some other thread).

Please can someone work on uploading Two Drifters, Castle of Purity, The Spider’s Strategem and Wonderland. Some of these matches start in less than a week, so it would be very helpful to have streaming links available asap :)

What I meant was, yeah I know it was an unofficial post I made…. But I was only trying to help get more people to submit there picks to you so less of us do it at the last minute, and you have less work to do at the last minute.

I’ve had three people step forward so far, all of whom already have a director. If no directorless person steps forward in the next 12 hours or so then I’ll give it to one of you three (or however many there are by then anyway…).

Damn, there goes our wonderfully eclectic Group 12. Can the other managers refuse to allow a pick into the group? Three of us ganging up of the ‘mighty’ Bunuel was kind of a fun concept.

Or if you want somebody more eclectic it’d be fun to explore Jan Svankmajer more.

Svankmajer was used last year. And while I think there’s room for argument in favour of re-introducing some directors in the future who fell foul of the ‘one loss and yer out’ rules of last year. I imagine it won’t be possible this year.

The rules did originally state quite clearly that if you can’t manage your director he’ll be given to someone else.

Well, never mind. I’m sure whoever we get will be interesting.

I didn’t realize he was used last year. If we were allowed to take directors who lost in the first round last year there’s like four or five other directors I’d take first.

Staying with Nicolaescu is good too. I was just responding to Cecil’s open call for volunteers.

No one is managing Nicolaescu unless he / she has seen at least 3 of his films. No one is managing him if they’ve seen nil.

I stepped down accidentally because I wasn’t aware we were obliged to write an introduction for our director. I guess it was obligatory after all, so I informed Cecil I’d be out if this were the case.

I repeat: if anyone wants Nicolaescu, they’ll have to have seen at least 3 of his films beforehand. I assume only Romanian users have done so. In any case, I doubt there would have been much enthusiasm.

P.S.: if Wenders is to be chosen, let’s avoid his crap Million Dollar Hotel films :P

I agree whoever manages him will have to have seen his films, but it’s a real shame to remove one of the more interesting directors from the cup.

I was going to watch Then I Sentenced them…this evening because I think it looks great. But not being Romanian I guess I must be mistaken.

I’m working on mine (Masahiro Shinoda). I forgot about the intros. Then again my match isn’t until mid May…

Yeah, I’ve decided just to go along with this. Brady has said he wants to manage Nicolaescu, so he can have him.

^ We have omitted and changed several rules in the past, not just in the previous Cup. I doubt Brady has seen anything from Nicolaescu. If anyone should have him, it should be a Romanian user who’s probably seen all of his or at least 2-3 of his. House and Risselada openly admitted they had at least seen 1-2 films from Panahi and Sembene and thus decided to manage them, they weren’t just “picking lottery tickets”. I’d suggest Bedroom Eyes but I don’t know if he wants to take part in this.

Please, don’t give a legendary director to an individual who knows nothing about him.

(that’s actually a pledge, not that I’m going to “win” any courtroom trial or anything)
