Antichrist 1 – No Day Off 0
The scene in No Day Off with the rich people talking about their expensive purchases was a bit too heavy handed for my taste. It put me off more than anything in Antichrist did.

Sure, Lars von Trier’s Antichrist can be alienating, terrifying, and even simply bizarre at times but Khoo’s incredibly one-sided perspective scares me far more than Antichrist. I believe that Antichrist is more of an honest film.

Antichrist 0 vs. No Day Off 1
Antichrist was a log slog. Fabricate a black and white scene in slow motion with classical music playing and you’ll fool the arthouse crowd into thinking they’ve seen something beautiful or important. Extend these sentiments for a whole film and oh man you’ve made those fools a new turd to champion. Khoo’s film has its flaws as it does border an almost farcical way at presenting its characters, but ultimately it still maintains a high level of interest and relevancy.

So I completely forgot about this competition…
No Day Off had its moments but left me wanting more especially after seeing the enchanting Be With Me.
Von Trier deserves this victory even though I wasnt a huge fan of Antichrist either. However it at least captivated me throughout.

Well, strategically it made the most sense to me. It’s the weakest of what I consider to be von Trier’s great films, so it seemed to make sense to get started with it, and move on to a better film with each round. I knew it would be in tough, but if von Trier couldn’t make it through round 1 with Antichrist, he probably couldn’t make it to the end either.
