“If Ehrenstein is “racist” against heterosexuals, you are racist against Americans.”
Wrong. Ehrenstein doesn’t specify whether he’s racist towards ALL HETEROSEXUALS whereas I despise Americans who deserve to be despised. How dare you say that against me?
David Lynch (Lost Highway) 0 vs Derek Jarman (Sebastiane) 1
That was hard…I feel bad voting against David Lynch….
It’s not Americans who should be depised, It is society, all society, that should be depised. The global intolerance is not the doing of America but the doing of the Learned Nature of people that goes back and back thousands of years. The simple truth is it is not racial issues at the heart of discord, but it is classist issues and fear of being considered a lower class in society. Arrogance is not an American trait, as you, Dim, prove, though too many Americans have been thought lessons of entitlement which only helps to jackhammer the foundation on which the US was supposedly built.
What the world’s people face is the increase of Labelization that continues to break us down into smaller and smaller subgroups and from there is continued to perpetrate the Class system which degrades humanity.
We should rebel against all labels, be they national, sexual, political, etc.
It seems Dim in many of your arguments you perpetuate the labelization of individuals instead of embrace the radical consideration of actual individualism.
But so be it.
“Ehrenstein doesn’t specify …. whereas I despise Americans who deserve to be despised.”
Very specific. I also like the idea of a person reacting against someone else’s supposed bigotry who believes that any human being “deserves” to be despised. Painful.
“How dare you say that against me?”
Quite easily. For one, it’s true, so that provides reason to, and for another, you don’t scare me, so I dare. I believe you also understand that, as it is your defense I am using—standing up for what I’m seeing.

(Rodney King Mode) Can’t we all get along? (/Rodney King Mode)
Here’s something that MIGHT cheer Dimitri up.
PolarisDiB,
You keep talking in your post about getting to the penultimate question and how important it must be. Then you finally reveal the penultimate line. Well obviously my next question is, what then is the ultimate question??
I believe the answer to the Ultimate Question is 42.
is it over yet?
Thanks PolarisDIB… Actually I liked The Man Who Fell To Earth and wanted to watch more Roeg.
Lost it’s a great companion to my beloved Mulholland Drive.
I’d actually prefer not to unravel Mulholland and Lost.
David Lynch (Lost Highway) 1 vs Derek Jarman (Sebastiane) 0
I want Derek Jarman to pass though… I really like The Last Of England and want to watch Caravaggio and Jubilee.
Voting is over
25-16 to Sebastiane
Jarman goes on to Round 3! Woo!
My congratulations to Cat!.
Tough match, Jose! I thought Lynch was going to crush Jarman for a moment back there ;)
go Jarman! go British film! :)
That was a good one!
James Benning feels like justice was finally meted out.

Ehrenstein isn’t racist, Dimitris. He’s drawing attention to heteronormative control of representation, something that I KNOW you understand. His extremely confrontational tactic in this mode is not far removed from your complaints about Westerncentric Hollywood filmmaking. If Ehrenstein is “racist” against heterosexuals, you are racist against Americans. But all that is dumb. The point is, Jarman’s movie confronts that heteronormative control of representation from a historical and religious perspective. We all, everyone who has seen this movie and commented on this thread, agree on that. So what’s the problem?
