I would say no, Antichrist is not really a group film.
For a group I think you want some movie with some good scares, something to make people jump, not a thinking person’s pseudo-horror film.
If your group is quiet and considerate, then maybe it would work, but Halloween is a fun time, and Antichrist just doesn’t fit the bill, you want a flick for a party, not a film.
Yeah I agree with Uli… You can probably just excerpt the mutilation scenes to gross people out! I don’t really see why everybody considers Antichrist a horror movie… it doesn’t really have any of the conventions. I feel like it’s mostly just marketing.
No. Definitely not.
. . . unless you’re planning a “chaos reigns” fox costume.
I completely disagree- I think this would be a great scary movie to watch in a group. As long as the group isn’t the Michael Bay type then I think it would be great. There are several moments that would be freaky enough to make everyone jump. Just make sure all the lights are off and the sound is on top volume.
I remember going to see this at a cinema full of philistine’s who (I guess) were expecting a Saw style horror flick. About three minutes in, after the penetration shot, the first of them vacated the cinema. As the film went on, more and more philistine’s started to leave as the scenes became gradually more graphic and disturbing. I found this reaction most amusing, and I’m guessing Von Trier would have done so too. So based on this evidence, I would say that Antichrist probably wouldn’t appeal to a typical horror movie crowd. But if your friends are of a cinephilic bent, then I’d say go for it.

I’m planning on having a little Halloween movie night with some friends and having seen Antichrist, I think that might be a potential scary and scarring movie to watch, especially since none of the friends I will be hanging with have seen it.
I don’t want other suggestions, I just want opinions on including Antichrist.
