Drag Me to Hell

Who do y’all think about the upcoming Sam Raimi flick, Drag Me to Hell? I don’t think Raimi has done anything in the horror genre since the Evil Dead trilogy and I am very excited to see this upcoming return to horror. In this day and age of constant remakes, it’ll be refreshing to see an original horror film (or is this a remake of something that I’m unaware of?).

How I wish I could be at Cannes to see it at its midnight showing!

Yeah, I’m pretty excited for this too. Alison Lohman has had a pretty bizarre career (Kraa! The Space Monster, anyone?) so it’ll be nice to see her working with a competent director. Let’s just hope Raimi has some of that old school magic left over from his Evil Dead days.

Yeah, I finally saw the trailer in front of an audience the other day, and it killed. People seem to love the title especially. I can’t decide if it looks goofy or awesome, but either way, I’m there.

Definitely excited but the trailer looked somewhat bland to me in all honesty.

i’ll have to look this one up. i haven’t heard about it yet. i used to love Sam Raimi, but i’ve been unimpressed with the Spiderman movies (the first two—didn’t see the third. don’t care to). i loved the TV series he was part of, and of course the Evil Dead films. if he’s going back to horror—or doing anything that isn’t Spider-Man, i’m happy.

I’ve been pretty excited about it until I saw the trailer. Still not stopping me from catching this in the theaters.

It has played here in the states already (SXSW, I think) and I believe it went over well.

I have heard that the trailer was filled with spoilers, so I opted not to view it, but Raimi’s track record makes anything he does an event. He might be inconsistent, but his best work (The Evil Dead, The Quick and the Dead, Spider-Man 2, A Simple Plan…) sits near the top of its respective genre.

I am glad that Ellen Page dropped out of this at the last minute. Lohman is infinitely more appealing to me.

I’m really looking forward to it, it has a real pre-spiderman Raimi feel to it, I’m hoping it’s going to be great. The only thing that worries me is that I heard it’s going to be a PG-13 (which will probably end up as a 12A/15 here in the UK), Saying that, I was pretty impressed with the trailer and I think Raimi is a good enough director to make it.

You can say that again.

The trailer didn’t really work that much for me, but oddly, I’m really excited. I sure hope it’s as entertaining as the Evil Dead films. And I’m always up for a horror film, good or bad, so…

There is no way Raimi can ever come close to the Evil Dead films again if he is going to be using run of the mill CGI effects. The trailer doesn’t make the film look all that appealing either if you ask me, but who knows, it could end up being an above average horror flick.

I saw the film last night. It was a bit of a let down but still fun.

I wrote a review here

I’m excited to see it. I won’t be going in with high expectations even though I think he still commands a good portion of the raw talent he had back in the Evil Dead days. Too much CGI would kill it for me though.

Didn’t Sam Raimi do The Gift? That had elements of horror if my memory serves me (the film was pretty forgettable).

I’m not really a fan of Sam Raimi but this is the first movie I’ll be seeing this weekend! And the reviews have been extremely positive, which is always nice to see for a horror film.

Just got back from seeing Drag Me to Hell. Let me preface that I am not a Sam Raimi fan at all. The only movie of his that I even remotely liked was A Simple Plan. Not a fan of Evil Dead and the Spider Man movies were pretty awful (his dialogue is about as good as George Lucas’s). Anyways, Drag Me to Hell was great. One of the scariest experiences I’ve ever had in a movie theater but yet also very funny.

Fantastic film, highly recommend it.

Laugh-out-loud entertainment! Amazing what someone with talent can do with the horror genre.

Just saw it today. I thought it was great. Several scenes had me jumping out of my seat and squirming! Good, solid horror movie.

I saw it at midnight, I must say that the crowd i attended with, the theater I mean, made it better than the actual movie. I wasn’t entirely impressed as we were watching Evil Dead and II the night of, it didn’t really do it for me. The garage scene was very good. But it was just too PG13’d downed. It suffered, seemed too friendly.

I laughed that Justin Long had an iMac and an iPhone.

i loved it.
i’m so sick of the slasher blood gore serial killer scary movies out for people right now.
i wouldn’t call this a horror film, it really isn’t, but if you like ghost stories and “cheesy-on-purpose” scary movies then you’ll love this. it was funny, and truly original.

I’d give it a meh. Traffics in the ‘jumping out from behind things after a moment of stillness’ kind of horror that I’m not particularly fond of. Telegraphs its ending so hard it hurts.

I saw it recently and while i had a hell of time, i was kind if disappointed because I know it could have been a lot grosser and ridiculous if it weren’t shackled with the pg-13 rating. Maybe I’ll have more appreciation for it during a second viewing, but i think this could have been right up there with Evil Dead 2 (his greatest film) or Spider man 2 (another great flick) with the help of more absurd violent sequences and cheesy dialogue. Also Alison Lohman was fantastic giving a great B movie performance of the likes of the great Bruce Campbell.

Evil Dead 2 is pretty much at a PG-13 level by today’s standards. I thought Drag Me to Hell was exactly what it should have been, too much gore and it might have lost its serious/camp tone. http://www.regrettablesincerity.com/?p=3199
