I’d vote for that.
But of course it’s never going to happen.
Regardless of what one thinks of the quality of the film, it doesn’t seem to be the sort of thing the Academy is likely to nominate.
I think it could have gotten nominated last year, but this year it probably won’t.
Because I think they changed the rules so instead of just ten films being nominated, five to ten are nominated, but only those that get 5% of first place votes.
Drive might be in the top ten vote-getting films, but there’s no way it gets 5% of first place votes.
But, I do think other than Midnight In Paris it’s the best mainstream appeal film of the year.
I hope Drive will be awarded in every possible film festival but to spoil its potential cult status with the Oscars would disappoint me deeply.
While we’re pointlessly doling out speculative nominations, can I submit A Real Hero for best song?
@Ari – Now I have the worst image in my head of the live performance of the College song or Eddie Murphy in the Scorpion jacket.
hahaha! ^
I guess I’m alone in my indifference, at times disdain, for that song.
I liked that song and the one in the opening credits.
Even if you disdain “A Real Hero”, you must admit the idea of it up against some shitty Randy Newman or Phil Collins “we stay together through thick and thin” song is absolutely tantalizing. I also submit Cliff Martinez for best score (for Drive and for Contagion but more for Drive).
I gotta check out the article about Martinez in The Notebook…
And get my hands on Tangerine Dream’s score or THIEF.

Not The Lincoln Lawyer?
He’s had a busy year. It somehow seems strange to me that he was briefly a drummer in the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
“Not The Lincoln Lawyer?”
Matthew McConaughey for best actor? They say he’s like acting again, dude, and even keeping his shirt on. (it’s actually not supposed to be so bad, right?).
Brandon Cooley
Should it be nominated? Reasons why it should? Reasons why it shouldn’t?
