Don’t pat yourself on the back, or be overly defensive. Just get down to business and start discussing something interesting! Thank you for finally getting on with it and talking specifically about the man and his films.
Yes, Makavejev deserves to be labeled as more than just “controversial”. But like it or not, that will always be the folklore surrounding him, because of the nature of his works and the fact that some of his films were banned. However, more people will get to know him thanks to Criterion. And then they can start forming new labels. Hopefully something related to being ahead of his time or a visionary.
“Hole in the Soul” was produced for BBC Scotland. It was so surreal for me to see Makavejev in Hollywood talking to his agent. Who knew he ever even had an agent! Talk about a fish out of water. Also, it was a great statement on Hollywood in the scene where he goes to the Directors Guild of America and can barely get in the front door, being an award-winning, legendary, internationally-renowned director and all.

be more open-minded…don’t hijack this thread just because you can’t handle some truths dude.
Ok…I see you’d rather argue with me and make accusations instead of continuing the discussion. I’ll play that game just for the sake of keeping this thread active! (hoping others will join in for meaningful discussion)
Now, feel free to say in detail how I’m close-minded, a hijacker, and someone who can’t handle the truth (I lost track…what truths are we talking about)? But please, whatever you do, don’t say anything about Makavejev! Not here.
…and still, nobody has anything to say about Makavejev. Any opinions from those who maybe recently saw his films on Criterion for the first time?

I revived MANY threads some hours ago and I didn’t do it to pawn that pathetic French guy. Spare your criticism somewhere else Wise or check my profile for the worthwhile threads I re-discovered.
Makavejev deserves more than just a “controversial” label by the way. Risellada mentioned Hole in the Soul which I haven’t yet seen and it would be nice if anyone can share reactions and such but Herbie’s frustration with Coca Cola Kid is similar to my feelings for this film, especially towards Roberts’ monotonous character.
