Eddie Murphy tapped to Host Oscars 2012, Who Would You Go With

Dennis Brian

The host of the Oscars is the most important part because the best you could hope to get out of a silly awards show is a fun night. Carson, Hope, Crystal, may legends have hosted or many hosts have become legends. I think Murphy is a great choice (it is not offical but deadline states that he is Ratner’s first choice and he wants to do it). I hope this will end up being a return to stand up for Murphy. If the show did not need ratings I would like to see Mort Sahl or Bob Newhart host.

I’d love to see Lars Von Trier. He wouldn’t be at all appropriate, but it would very interesting to watch.

Eddie Murphy a poster boy for unrealized potential. Every once in a while, he comes out with something that shows us what natural talent he has. Then he makes five more crap movies in a row. He’s always been a better stand up than actor, so hopefully he can recall those old instincts. ("Now, that’s a fire!!!)

He hosted the MTV awards a long time ago and by most accounts, he did a good job. Isn’t he in Ratner’s new film, by the way? It always makes me wonder why anyone would want to work with him.

Terrible choice.

Of course this is what happens when you ask Brett Ratner to produce.

The Academy just makes mistake after mistake.

They should have gone with Crystal. Such a no brainer, especially after his reception last year.

Ugh.

Billy Crystal always brings the house down. Why is this so difficult to decide?
Throw in a cameo by Robin Williams and people will be rolling in the isles.

Please no Robin Williams. He sickens me.

Eddie Murphy would definitely be an improvement on James Franco and Anne Hathaway. I don’t dislike them or anything, I just think they made a terrible duo… though they were still far better than Chris Rock.

I’d love to see Woody Allen host, but I can’t see it happening.

Jon Stewart has been the best host of recent years.

Anybody would be fine after the Franco fiasco.

Doesn’t matter who hosts as long as they don’t figure out what audience they are trying to cater to with the broadcast.

Neil Patrick Harris is possibly the least charming actor working in Hollywood. Every gesture is forced.

The kind of host that would make me want to watch is the sort of 18-39 male oriented sardonic comedian like Jon Stewart or Ricky Gervais, but they don’t please the Oscars’ main demographic like an Eddie Murphy or Billy Crystal does.

People who I’d love to see host:
John Oliver
Dimitri Martin

People who the main demo would love to see host:
Chris Rock
Robin Williams
Bill Murray
That guy from Horrible Bosses

Neil Patrick Harris was roundly praised from all corners after his performance hosting Tony Awards.

If we can’t get Billy C back, how about Steven Wright…….I would love to hear the category introductions in that graveyard delivery of his……but no doubt a bit much for the average joe watchng :-)

Does that mean we will get some tranny award presenters?

Claus, while Wright would be interesting, it would stretch the show to 8 hours long.

Looks like the spot’s open again. Too bad. I was curious to see if Murphy could recall any of the old magic. He’s talking about a return to stand up.

Jon Stewart – that’s the way to go.

I was hoping this would lead Murphy back to stand up.
His on the shelf film A Thousand Words was being brought out around Oscar time to capitalize on buzz

hope that still comes.

I think Vince Vaughn will do it. He is a name and did a picture with Grazer not that long ago.

Santino

The first thing I think of when I hear Grazer and Howard is Hanks.

I wonder if he’d do it.
