That is interesting. I wish I had the tools for the job.
This certainly could be, I would be down, I have FCP and a CANON HV30, the only problem is that I need to buy the firewire cable to connect it to my new Macbook Pro. You were not too specific about what we would need to film, are you talking about stock like footage here? However, I do have a lot of experience filming, check out my work at: www.abrampf.com
What is filmed can be up for discussion. Ideally it would be some sort of story or set of scenes with actors, but I doubt anyone would want to put this much time into this experiment.
I wish someone who had finished filming but not yet edited their own movie would post all the footage, but I don’t think anyone would let their pride and joy be touched by a bunch of others. I know I wouldn’t.
This is a great idea. Maybe someone would be willing to donate footage from an abandoned, old, or on-hiatus project. I’d definitely be down for this.
Perhaps the footage can just be a bunch of random footage (or each person contributes his own clip) and we have to edit together a narrative or an essay film of some sort. I do not have good editing software but I’ll find some software just to do this.
Thats a fantastic idea, i’d be well up for that!
i’ve got final cut, so i would be up for this. sounds exciting, but i’m a guy who owns all three versions of Alexander.
What also works is editing found footage into your narrative, ala Ed Wood. The Internet Archive has tons of public domain footage you can use for free.
hmm good it’ll be a good editing exercise.
hey can anyone tell me how can i upload video here.
Rishi, you can upload a video up to 250 MB from your computer if you go to http://www.theauteurs.com/garages/1/videos/new . The last time I tried it though has there been a projection booth error, so hopefully theauteurs are going to fix that problem soon.
I think this has already been done on…YouTube.

There should be a challenge section of theauteurs where people can post challenges like this or mini-online-film-festivals
Dude, Drew, this is a fantastic idea. Sadly, though, erg…I don’t have a camera or editing software! Damn!
Also, though, you need to make sure that there is either the possibility of different endings, or that the ending of something can be cut off or continued with more shots.
Savvy
ilan, the section exists already. its called ‘garage’. fourth tab from the right if you are looking at the forum front page. post filmmaking project ideas there.
Anyone interested in editing challenges (and remixing, and ideas around Creative Commons), check this out: The Cosmonaut
—It’s the beginning of a program of different ideas and experiments with collective editing and remixing on The Auteurs… 20 days to go until this one closes.
Bait: you can win a Lomo camera pack if your work is good…

The Garage is open to suggestions for new collaborative editing projects, so if you have an idea burning behind your eyes… message us at this account.

I recently got the Brazil Criterion and on the back it said something along the lines of the short version being evidence of the power of editing. This gave me the idea of an interesting experiment. Someone on here shoots around 20 minutes or more of footage, and we take this and cut it into a 5-10 minute short. I think it would be really interesting to see how different each of our films are. I would offer to shoot the footage but I have a crappy camera and don’t have much experience. So if enough people are interested, and someone wants to volunteer, I think this could be a very interesting editing exercise.
