Editing Contest

Hello

I’ve been thinking about doing some kind of a contest/fest where I shoot different things(with or without actors) and place them online and editors can then do what they want with them and like any other film contest, choose the best edited versions.

Any thoughts on this? Do you think it could work? IS there something out there like this already?

I am game. I do not know the process of this, but you might actually be able to turn it into a full-fledged Garage project. Ask T about it, maybe?

Whether Garage or no, though, I am still game. I should be up to full personal editing capability in less than a month, I hope, and I’m eager for projects.

Yes. I’m thinking a final edited version that would last a couple of minutes. The footage would be all kinds of things. Footage I"ve shot, maybe even stock footage I find interesting. The idea would be to find the most creative editors who can take the footage and do what they would with them.

The idea originally started when several years ago I saw Peleshian’s “distant montage” film he made while he was in film school, which is what he essentially did. He took a lot of stock footage and made something terrific with them. I kept it in the back burner but now I’ve been thinking about it again.

I’d also like to give this a whirl. I’ve read all the books I can about editing and have soaked up about as much knowledge as I can contain without having actual raw footage to practice with. This would be perfect.

Wow, great, original idea for a project! I really see this happening, people here so often follow through with these amazing projects and the community always comes through when push comes to shove. People don’t just idly talk around here about doing things, oh no – they actually do them, history has proven this, look at all the content these arm-chair filmmakers have been creating through these public forums!

Even though the thread has been dormant for a month I still can sense the momentous vitality here.

Thanks for keeping the dream alive Surrealist. I’m guessing you’re really a doer, not a talker. If you paid attention to what my post was about, it really wasn’t about doing anything. It was a question posted in a forum to see what people’s reaction would be to a very premature idea. Before I venture into something like this, I’d like to see what other filmmakers (which I’m sure you are) think about it. Now, if you have some constructive ideas or think you know something or can “do” something we don’t know about, by all means, SHARE or go out there and do it.
