MY PASTED COMMENTS 1:
Hi Santropez,
You mean, scan right now, photos of the 1970’s look I’ve idealized for MARIA in the beggining of MISSING? If that’s what u have in mind, it sure is possible, but…
1) The actress is not yet defined. It will probably be myself, as I no longer feel comfortable inviting friends for payless jobs. Though I have a vision of her in every scene, composing the actual look that will appear in the movie is part of a process that has a lot of improvisation and unforeseen elements coming in along the way.
2) Anything I might send to u now will be provisory and it would take me few days to have it ready to send out to u… up to a week, I figure… Would that be a workable timing?
Considering all that, if u still believe this photos would add to our collective creative process, I’ll be glad to make them and post the results here, within 7 days.
Best! DAN
MY PASTED COMMENTS 2
Hi, SANTROPEZ, while it’s all provisory, I think I have a photo for you. I just couldn’t copy and paste it from my computer into this reply slot here. Any ideas of how may I do it with my narrow computer skills?
Best! DAN
Dandara, you should go to an image hosting site like http://imageshack.us/
1) go to http://imageshack.us/
2) Click ‘Browse’ next to the upload slot
3) pick the photo you want to upload, double click it
4) click ‘Upload now’
5) wait for it to finish uploading
6) get rid of the ‘register now!’ popup by clicking x
7) next to ‘Direct link’ copy the code that is in the slot
7) paste the code in the reply slot here
MY UPLOADED PHOTOS
I’ve uploaded the stills that are inspiring my in this process to my Flicker account (dandaraphoto). I’m not sure if I’ll use these photos in the actual film. (I don’t even know if I’ll be able to make it…) But the MISSING body in this story is MARIA’s father’s. That’s how the Military Dictatorship keeps on impacting our lives. President Dilma has missing friends herself. In the years 1972, 1973 and 1974 many friends of my parents disappeared. Some were never found, dead or alive. There goes the link. I hope it may inspire you guys too. Best! DAN

Thanks, ROBOKO, I had some local help and used flicker instead!
That’s alright.
edit: fixed
Saw the photos, Dandara! Flickr is easy to use and access, good idea.
Something doesn’t let me see the pictures /: if someone wants to copy their URL’s and send them to me as a PM, I’ll be very thankful! (:
santropez – I fixed that problem by turning off safesearch in privacy and permissions. You can get to it by clicking your username then going to the privacy and permissions tab. It’s under ‘content filters’
Awesome, Roboko, thankyou and thankyou too Dandara! Those will be great for my segment (:
Fabulous — it’s coming together, guys! :)
QUICK!! Start making your predictions!!!

Maybe we can syphon that money to the Ergodic Film Project!
@Laurabot
Haha now that’s an idea. Wouldn’t it be something if we could use money from a MUBI-hosted contest to make a film on MUBI itself?
Anyways, I’m working on my second proposal, I expect to have it up either later today or tomorrow. Keep it coming guys! It’s looking great so far! :)
It would! We’ll keep trying to get through to management. At least I still have my red stapler.
In the meantime, I encourage you all to try out a crowdfunding campaign at IndieGoGo or Kickstarter.

If there are still revisions outstanding after the deadline, we’ll hold voting for the two “act 2” segments on only those which have been submitted. If you miss the deadline and already have your pitch approved, you can adapt it to the “act 2” segments and run for one of the four places in “act 3” or resubmit to the second round of pitching which should take place after either “act 2” or “act 3” depending on whether or not anyone drops out. Numerically, it’s impossible for us to go beyond “act 3” without holding a second round of pitching because each “act” doubles the number of segments (1, 2, 4, 8, 12…) so we should have just enough people for eight segments (3 “acts”) unless, like I said, someone drops out (in which case we would only be able to get 2 complete “acts”). If any of the current contributors drop out, we’ll have to begin a second round of pitching and wait for new contributors some time after “act 2” (so, the first three film segments).
By the way, when I say second proposal, I mean adaptation. If that’s what you thought.
“Maybe we can syphon that money to the Ergodic Film Project!”
Well, I’m for gambling when I can’t lose anything. Submitted. However, I am terrible at Oscar pools because I ultimately just end up guessing for what I would vote for.
Dandara: GORGEOUS photos, a perfect launching base for your segment and this project.
Anonymouse: your workflow, as usual, is impeccable.

Thanks, POLARISDIB, I was rather insecure about sharing them here. Though, in fact, they’re really where I’m coming from. I’d like to hear more about LAURABOT’s tips on potential funding sources. As I further develop this project, it concerns me more & more. I’ve been to the Cemitery Saint John The Baptist this afternoon, prayed at Jobim’s grave asking for his blessing; spoke to Carmen Miranda for a few minutes. Mentors of the Brazilian Republic, such as Benjamin Constant, rest there too. So does Santos Dumont, who flew around the Eiffel Tour, with his 14 Bis aircraft, which many credit to be the world’s 1st airplane. Jobim with his 19 year old son; Dumont with both his parents; Constant with his wife, who lived with him in a castle in my vicinity. Things have progressed beautifully, but the no money production horizon, tell me I better not get over excited. Nonetheless, (please allow me, as an ESL writer, I have few chances to spend the dictionary words I fall in love with!) I’d like to thank all of you for the opportunity of feeling so alive as a criative artist. I’ll never forget it! I loved all of the submissions, so far. ODILONVERT’s film poetry possibilities stroke me as I walked through the Cemetery’s alleys. The russian cow cinematography is sublime. And the latest submission I read, of a writer searching for his daughter and beinbg turned down for his political content, is so intelligent & sensitive!
After I reviewd it, I felt that I must add that: most political prisoners of the Brazilian Dictatorship were young children of an intellectual elite. The ‘people’ they risked their lives for, didn’t give a damn for their unrequested “sacrifice”. That’s why you’ll see former guerrilla soldiers in power nowadays. From ex- President F.H. Cardoso, to actual President Dilma. My parents, who came from famine to an upper middle class status (at the end, more like mid middle class, what the hell!) due to their high education, were deeply impacted by this anti-military movement. The fear and hatred against the repression was part of my every day life – but they’d never risk their public service pay checks for no marxist ideology! So… what matters to me here is MARIA’s personal search towards death, as the only way to find some closure and… luckly, rebirth. The white room set is linked to real accounts of psycologic torture imposed to my ‘uncle’ Hamilton Coutinho, who’s the one who invited me to MUBI, and who met my Dad at Law School. Being the purple sheep of a black family, and an artist where everyone focuses on bread, I dentify with Dom Quixote heroes who, eventually, ascend to the Presidency. What makes a difference to me now is the “ergodic” narrative net we all create as we charge our film ideas with each one’s very own cinematic views. “To the comedian nothing is sacred”, says Monty Python, but still… everything is divine!
Well, these are my comments in my Rio de Janeiro 40°C, with chilly red wine, after death afternoon…
Love u all! DAN
Dandara, touched by your post. I’m very glad that yours was chosen as the first film. Enjoy your chilly afternoon and may the wine warm you up! Here it is raining, and I am enjoying that too. A hug…
Take a look at the Subvex | Exquisite Corpse, this is an example of a small project funded via Kickstarter with support from Garage.
Subvex seems to have some very interesting filmmakers as members ( I saw Alex and Niko’s Born from pain and loved it) – and looks like The Exquisite Corpse is showing in my local film festival, thanks for the advice!
Lovely post Dandara! I’m getting chills about the possibilities of this project – again. I need a hot drink :o)
Remember the deadline for submissions is the 4th of February, so be sure to get them in on time. We still have one pending and no word on the other two at all!
Mine is coming soon, don’t worry! Working on 2 short films + acting a in a local play has been sucking up my time but I haven’t forgot! Looking forward to all of this fitting together!

Good, otherwise I would have to hound you for it! I’m just kidding. I know what you mean, I’m doing some television work and writing for the campus newspaper myself, plus a standard course load (which is why I’ve had to shirk the Production Note writing onto Odilonvert and also why I’m not making a segment).
I’m poised to make that production note, Anonymouse. Finished 5 video projects recently and have a “space” before I start on another. Anyway this production note should be pretty straightforward, so no biggie.
Damn, everyone here seems to be so busy, I can’t complain.
My segment is basically the same, I am only adding a headline making reference to the Politic prisoners on Dandara’s pitch to the newspaper his father is holding at the beginning, and I may add one or two of the pictures Dan uploaded somewhere during the boy’s quest for playstations.
