Essential scenes from The Werkmeister Harmonies

I was thinking that the opening scene of “The Werkmeister Harmonies,” and most of from the mob scene onwards capture the essence of the film, and perhaps in some way, just watching those selections may suffice in experiencing the drama. Any thoughts, responses, outrages?

(Don’t get me wrong I love the movie; I thought the opening scene in many ways perfectly symbolizes what film as a unique art has to offer. I also thought the last scene was depressing, but in that good, retrospective way.)

The first scene or the first ten minute of the film is my favorite of the entire film. It’s just the mixture of what Janos is saying along with the music is amazing. I also really like how silent the mob scenes were. You could hear the footsteps of everyone but there really wasn’t much else. It kind of made it harder to watch which might have been the purpose: to show violence without much distraction.

One of the best scenes, I think, is when Janos sees the whale for the first time and how much it affects him following the encounter.
