Who the hell is Stephen Daldry?

Santino

He’s the greatest living filmmaker working today.

He’s nobody.

Daldry’s awful. Santino, I didn’t know you were such a sentimentalist.

Stephen Daldry is a saint

Santino – How cool is the treasure hunt? Would it be worth it for me to see based on that? Also, I want to see why he had a whole suitcase full of keys at one point in the trailer.

heehee

I’m usually a cynical hard-ass but this movie got me.

But yeah, Daldry is smelly potatoes. The Reader was a cinematic abortion.

I think we cross-posted – is the movie worth seeing for the treasure hunt alone?

Well, the treasure hunt is only a small aspect of the film but I enjoyed it. My grandfather used to do stuff like that when I was a kid so I related to it. So I would say yes, if you enjoy a good scavenger hunt, see this film. :)

I have to defend the film against this overwhelming hatred. I think it is better than most other best picture oscar nominated films this year.

I think where the film fails most is to achieve a better focus. It seems to spill on all those visits. Maybe it is because of the book itself (I haven’t read it), even the references, obviously kept from the book to the Tin Drum don’t seem to hold quite well. But nevertheless, on the level of details, Daldry does quite a good job.
