anyone
It’s available as R2 DVD from German label Arthaus (and there is a Polish DVD out somewhere). Olive Films announced it as a forthcoming title as well.
Yup, should be out in R1 before the end of the year. Olive Films Opus is a label to watch.
What about The Touch (1971) ?
I believe this to be the first of Bergman’s English language films…? … this too is unavailable on Region 1 DVD…
I’ve acquired it by my own means but, regardless, I’m quite sure this is another example of a portion of Bergman’s ouvre that is not widely available on DVD. It is particularly interesting as it is only one of the two films Bergman ever did in the English language… also, it is my understanding that one of the reasons it is not available on DVD is because Bergman, more or less, loathes the film.
any updates on the olive films release!
bumped up because i yearn to share and watch liv ullman’s devastating performance again.
the “films criterion should release” threads always trigger my knee-jerk responses of “face to face, please!”. the “best film featuring a nervous breakdown” thread also unleashes my plea. the “best performances by an actress” thread generates my cinematic salivary glands again. i can’t get this bergman movie out of my mind.
i’ve read somewhere that bergman “loathed” this film. sorry i don’t have a link, but could this be why it’s unavailable, if true? did bergman decide to bury this part of his oeuvre?
i checked the olive films’ website again yesterday and there’s no mention of “face to face” on their “upcoming releases” page.
if only i knew….when and, if not, why?
.
liam allen is slightly depressed
face to face appears to be the only major bergman film not available on either region 1 or 2 [dreams is available on region 4 dvd ] i wonder what the copyright issues might be
