Curtis—that was a little over the line.

Shadow of a Doubt. I was so happy when I found out it was Hitch’s favorite too, as if that justified my personal perference. I do find myself revisting Rope and Suspicion quite a bit, too.

Very close to yours Rupert, I like Dial M for Murder quite a bit as well. The Birds doesn’t get the respect it deserves around here!

North by Northwest is fun, and Notorious is well made but they’re two of the most loved Hitchcocks which don’t really do it for me.

Rope is up there with my favourites, but Vertigo, Rear Window and Birds are of course great.

the 39 steps has gradually been worming its way to my top spot.
previous hitch faves have been north by northwest, notorious and rear window.
when hitch is in top form he is unparalled.

1. Marnie
2. The Birds
3. The 39 Steps
4. Spellbound
5. Suspicion
6.Young and Innocent
7. Under Capricorn
8. Strangers on a Train
9. Frenzy
10. Rich and Strange

The list is in preferential order, but the noted films of course get shifted around from time to time, and others, like Shadow of a Doubt, Notorious, Stage Fright, The Paradine Case, and The Lady Vanishes, could easily slip into their company without any difficulty. Like everyone else who admires Hitchcock and his work, I have my own Hitch, one which I lay claim to and enjoy perhaps in opposition to what others value; that is my own individual sense of him and his particular achievement.

Well, maybe. But personally, Vertigo has been my favorite Hitchcock for quite a few years, so I won’t renege now.

I’m surprised that Rebecca isn’t gettin more love

Dial M for Murder, this Bordwell article lays the case for why it’s such a great film: http://www.davidbordwell.net/blog/2012/09/07/dial-m-for-murder-hitchcock-frets-not-at-his-narrow-room/
