UNFORGIVEN, then THE OUTLAW JOSEY WALES.
I think A Perfect World is his best. It is so strange and sad.
White Hunter, Black Heart is my favorite while directing and starring(Bronco Billy takes second). The Beguiled for starring.
High Plains Drifter and Good the Bad and the Ugly
Unforgiven for directing, Good the Bad and the Ugly for starring. Fistful of Dollars is a close second.
im actually doing an eastwood retrospective at the moment. iv watched 12 films over the past two weeks and still have another 11 to get through, not counting seeing changeling in the cinema tomorrow night! check out my blog for full reviews of each of the films. my favourite, both in terms of direction and starring is the outlaw josey wales. its just a perfect film. the one that surprised me the most was bronco billy. i pre-judged it to be a rubbish 80’s mid career comedy like any which way but lose but surprised to discover its a great film.
i’m more of a fan of director clint eastwood than actor clint eastwood. my favorite so far has got to be MYSTIC RIVER.
the good the bad and the ugly, unforgiven – actor
million dollar baby – director
I’d probably have to go with Unforgiven for both acting and directing.
Mystic River, Unforgiven, Bird, A Perfect World, Magnum Force, The Good, The Bad and the Ugly, Play Misty For Me, Dirty Harry.
High Plains Drifter and Unforgiven are the top of the heap. High Plains for its mythological quality – in sets, story, characters, and acting. Unforgiven for its qualities as an antidote for the casual killing found in so much film. There’s nothing easy or simple about taking a life.
I would say the bridges of madison county was his best try as a director.
The Good The Bad and The Ugly.
changeling was outstanding.
I generally prefer his work as a director to his work as an actor.
Million Dollar Baby, Gran Torino, Unforgiven, Mystic River, Changeling
1 ) Unforgiven
2 ) A Fistfull of Dollars
3 ) Where the Eagles Dare
4 ) Million Dollar Baby
5 ) Bird
Letters From Iwo Jima, The Outlaw Josey Walles, Dirty Harry, White Hunter Black Heart, The Bridges of Madison and A Perfect World are also pretty damn good. I even like Pink Cadillac, Firefox and Space Cowboys; they show the man has lots of range.
Play Misty for Me
high plains drifter, for pure entertainment value
i really liked changeling, too
Flags of Our Fathers/ Letter From Iwo Jima (I consider them to be one film) is my fave. I also love Unforgiven, Changeling, Gran Torino, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, The Gauntlet and Bronco Billy.
Escape from Alcatraz
The leone films and Unforgiven. + Dirty Harry.
THE BEGULIED, HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER, PLAY MISTY FOR ME, DIRTY HARRY, THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY, BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY, FIREFOX, MAGNUM FORCE, THUNDERBOLT AND LIGHTFOOT
Million Dollar Baby
I thought Mystic River was really amazing
I always thought “A Perfect World” was a bit underrated…I remember quite enjoying it when I first saw it in a theatre years ago. One of Costner’s better performances too, I think.
Thunderbolt and Lightfoot was great, so are any of his western appearances, or the first two Dirty Harry flicks.
I didn’t like Mystic River. Blah.
As director:
1. Letters from Iwo Jima/Flags (I can if David can)
2. Unforgiven
3. Mystic River
4.Bird
5. White Hunter, Black Heart/Gran Torino/Changeling
As an actor:
1. The Man With No Name Trilogy
2. Dirty Harry
3. Unforgiven
4. Gran Torino
how about TARANTULA? One of the best!!! I’m still petrified of spiders….
I’m surprised only a few have mentioned the DIRTY HARRY films, those are the ones where he made his greatest impact on film culture. Spaghetti films were more important later, if you ask me.
Of course, Clint as a director is a complete different animal, as is Clint as a composer. He’s always gonna be an actor to me, who happens also to be an excellent if somewhat narrow focused director.
Director:
High Plains Drifter
The Outlaw Josey Wales
White Hunter Black Heart
Unforgiven
A Perfect World
Mystic River
Actor:
The Man With No Name Trilogy
The Beguiled

Jay a.k.a. 6FOOT
My favorites are Flags of our Fathers, Letters from Iwo Jima, and Mystic River
